Article = none, personal experiance
My sister bought a laptop with Vista on it.
Price tag, 600$ , not including recovery disk. Did she want a recovery disk ? She passed on it. Typically they start at 400$ for the disk, though I understand the price has recently been dropping.
Running a lap top, or any computer , without a recovery cd is a bad idea. They aways crash. So the true price of her computer is 1000$, so far.
Guess what ?
Vista crashes. A lot. And it wont run her old office 2003 , it wants her to upgrade to the latest and greatest office suite. Saw a copy for sale for 500$ , but it was used, but what the hey , we'll take that as a "brand new" price just for arguments sake.
Thats 1500$ so far for the lap top.
She wasn't running Vista though , because it wouldn't run her office software. She'd fallen back to WinXP. And needed drivers for the video card to watch DVD's , and the two network cards (one ethernet , one wireless)
Using a memory stick , the new modern Sneaker Net , I downloaded files and we transfered them over. Only to discover Operating System Not Supported or No Compatible Hardware Found , depending on which drivers we tried. And we tried a bunch.
It would seem Microsoft has perfected the art of Vender Lock In , we now have a simple trivial network card that only has drivers in Vista , you load any other operating system on it , you lose that card. And the other two devices as well.
She ghosted her copy of Vista before removing it (nice try) but when she tried to put it back it didn't work out (didn't have a copy of the ghost image to try restoring it, but she complained bitterly about it so I thought I'd include that too)
I've learned a lot about all those lap tops you see advertised from my sister. I've learned that the real price is double what they're quoting , or more. I've learned you're stuck with Vista whether you like it or not. I've learned Vista is a nightmare of vender lock in and crashity crash crash crashedness.
Get a Linux machine. Run your old software under Wine. All the old stuff works fine under wine it's only the new stuff and the games that have problems. And don't even think about a "lap top gaming machine" , thats a 2000$ toy (who's price tag will read $1000, but its double just the same) that will spend more time broken than functional.
If you really want a Vista machine, get one from Dell ,or Compaq , or whoever, with the warrenty and the tech support and the three year financial plan where they fix everything at their expense and you just pay your 20$ / month. This 600$ up front for a machine that comes both brand new and pre-broken is just insane.
don't throw away your old computer. It may be the only thing that runs your old software :)

Europe and US wrestle for control of global markets
Article
President Bush will host an emergency summit of leaders from the major economies to chart a new course for world finance amid signs that Europe and America appear intent on heading in different directions.
Oh my goodness they didn't like us screwing the whole world economy and they want to run off in their own direction ! We can't allow that !!!
Mr Bush said: “As we make the regulatory institutional changes necessary to avoid a repeat of this crisis, it is essential that we preserve the foundations of democratic capitalism - commitment to free markets, free enterprise and free trade.
We solemnly promise not to do it again , and we plan on staying in charge.
“We must resist the dangerous temptation of economic isolationism and continue the policies of open markets that have lifted standards of living and helped millions of people escape poverty around the world.”
You need to keep buying our trash that we mass produce to the point were we drown out any local competition, thus stealing your jobs.
“We must reform capitalism so that the most efficient system ever created doesn’t destroy its own foundations,” he said. Although agreeing with Mr Bush that it would be “wrong – catastrophic – to challenge the foundations of market economics”, he added: “We cannot continue along the same lines, because the same problems will trigger the same disasters.”
yeah , you guys royally screwed the pooch on this one and we aint gonna let you do it again. That's *OUR* backside that's sore thanks to you and we're gonna make sure it stops whether you like it or not.

Sarkozy's Quebec comments being twisted, French diplomat says
Article
There was no doubt in former Parti Québécois premier Jacques Parizeau mind as to what Mr. Sarkozy truly meant. Mr. Parizeau slammed the French President's comments, saying it was “an outrageous remark” and a clear expression of “anti-Quebec sovereignty”
The reality is that a foreign leader does not ferment revolt in an allied nation.
The reality is that Quebecers had their chance to vote for independance, and despite a heck of a lot of cheating (and law suits, they sued people who voted against it for petes sake !) they lost. Quebecer's voted to stay canadian and not become independant.
The reality is , sovereignty is an unpopular cause in a small province of a democratic nation , and despite all your whining and caterwauling about it , the majority don't want it.
The reality is the only reason why the Bloc Quebequois party holds even a few seats is because they put sovereignty on the back burner and started dealing with real world problems instead.
The reality is , you sir , are an ass , if you think some foreign government is going to start a diplomatic conflict with canada just to please your private , unpopular agenda.

More sabotage feared after 2nd pipeline bombed in northern B.C.
Article
"There is getting to be growing frustration and growing concern among the agricultural community about the number of pipelines that are criss-crossing the area, the ability that the oil and gas companies have ... accessing their property, the kinds of claims or compensation that the farmers and ranchers are getting," Przybylski said.
This is actually the crux of the issue.
In the western provinces of Canada the oil companies can move into your land , dig anywhere , and make a gawd awful mess, and then just walk away. And it seems from this report they can run pipelines everywhere on anyones property and the farmers get diddly for them doing it.
My land is not my land ? Some rich company just comes in and does as he pleases and messes the place up and walks away to leave me with the mess ? If I'm lucky he doesn't find oil. If he does I don't get a nickle, just a big oil rig on my property rendering it useless and I'm locked out of my own place.
This is what happens when you step on the little people, and the government is bought off and does nothing to stop it.
It's gonna be some rancher starving to death because you took away his prime grazing ground because you found oil on it and didn't give him a dime. You watch and see.

Liberals: Dion ready to support Harper on economy
"We Liberals will do our part, responsibly to ensure that this parliament works," Mr. Dion said. "As the Official Opposition we will make sure that we protect Canadians from the economic storm that the world is facing."
wow... you flip flopped from Harper having no vision of the economy and having his head burried in the sand to We Can Work With This Guy. So all that stuff you said about him before ... you were just lying ? Just electorial campagning ?
Politicians. Hmph ! They don't even care if they get caught showing their forked tongues.
Run this bum out of town.

Bush calls for confidence in 'anxious time'
"Here's what the American people need to know: that the United States government is acting; we will continue to act to resolve this crisis and restore stability to our markets," he said. "Anxiety can feed anxiety, and that can make it hard to see all that is being done to solve the problem."
Here's what the American people need to know: Thank you for your 23 000$ , each, the rich millionaire bankers that robbed you of your homes deeply appreciate it , and no you're not getting your homes back. sorry you have to live in your cars, but we're losing money on a stock market that poor people like you can't even afford to play on, so we're going to make your little tiny lives just a bit more miserable so we can afford that fourth car we always wanted to by and park it on the drive way of the house I bought for my mistress, since my wife won't let me keep her in the same house as her.
Beyond that , if you get sick , we're gonna let you die. No healthcare for you. If you get mugged and it's too expensive to prosecute the mugger , we're going to drop the case because we're poor. And don't even think of squatting in all those empty houses now , the government is going to buy them and sell them TO YOU !! again , and see if they can sucker you into paying twice for the same house.
Thank you for your time, you stupid idiots.
Capitalism Rules.

The Grand Dion Economic Plan
Dion hits back over tape flap
Dion has said that if elected he would launch an urgent national effort, with input from premiers, the Bank of Canada and federal regulators, to develop a strategy to deal with the economic crisis.
The position that "I'm gonna go ask those guys over there what I should do about this mess *AFTER* I get elected" is not a position at all. It's a dumb faced mug with a shrug of your shoulders while saying , in your stupidest immitation of the village idiot "Gee , I don't know what to do."
That degree in political science is really coming in handy I see. You get to transform a simple "I have no idea what to do about anything" into a really long nifty sounding plan , while complaining all the while that your competition , who has a degree in economics and is already on the job , is an idiot with no vision at all.
Clarification. It's a beautiful thing.
Lets help Dion to the door , since he's so lost.

Harper is offering ‘too little, too late': Dion
Article
SIDNEY, B.C. — Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion today accused Stephen Harper of being the only world leader who fails to see the urgency of government intervention in the growing economic credit crisis.
During a campaign stop in Sydney, B.C., Mr. Dion boasted that he was right to call last week for a short term plan to address the situation.
He noted that Mr. Harper and his Conservative Party accused Mr. Dion of panicking about the economy, yet Mr. Harper now appears poised to announce a new plan of his own.
“It's too little too late. For the last week we told him that he needs to wake up and say to Canadians that indeed we are in tough times and indeed the government will help you,” said Mr. Dion.
What a fascinating article.
No where in it does it mention that Stephen Harper in fact has a masters degree in economics (Stephan Harper) , while Mr Dion is a master of lies...urrr..political science. (Stephan Dion) Interestingly enough , it shows Dion as an avid seperatist in his early years , though he later claims to be a federalist. Judging by his TAX EVERYONE WHO AINT A QUEBECER attitude , I wonder if much has changed, despite his claims to be a "born again canadian".
So the master of politics is very effectively making the guy who knows what he's talking about look like an idiot.
Hmmm... who you gonna believe. The guy with the masters degree in lying ... oops ... politics... or the guy with the masters degree in economics ... in this time of economic crisis ?
Ding ! Times up ! Your answer please.

A Dion Supporter Spews Hot Air
Article
The derogatory descriptions of Stéphane Dion are telling. He is "a geek." He is "professorial." He needs new glasses – better still, contact lenses.
This is teen talk. Shallow.
Can't remember anyone saying that about him. Do remember him saying that Harper was "Hoover in a blue sweater" , is that teen talk as well ? Or is it ok because THE MIGHTY DION said so ?
These are the obsessions of the age of slick marketing and the TV clip. Shouldn't we rather be asking if the leader of the Liberal party has integrity? Intelligence? Knowledge? Experience? Judgment? Courage? Vision?
All I saw from him was TAX TAX TAX ...give money to quebec corperations for killing 20 people with Listerosis...
Does he have anything useful to say about the economy? The environment? Medicare? Child care? Poverty? National unity? Urban Canada? Relations with the United States? Our Afghan quagmire?
In order, I believe his position is TAX , Tax the polluters, no comment , no comment , QUEBEC IS POOR GIVE US MORE MONEY , Break the Country apart, urban Canada aint quebec let them suffer, USA is to be emulated , and Let the Terrorists win - lets go home until they follow us here.
The real rap against Dion is that he does not inspire people. Harper inspires fear. Take your pick.
But it's Dion I fear , not Harper. You sure you're not getting that mixed up ?

Quebec cheese retailers get $8.4M in provincial aid
Article
The Quebec government will spend $8.4 million to revive its cheese industry, which has been hit hard by the recent listeriosis crisis.
The Liberal government's aid plan unveiled Friday includes interest-free loans for artisanal cheese producers in financial difficulty.
Yeah , we messed up. Whole wack of people got sick. Maybe one or two died. Bad for our bottom line. Give us money.
This is why people don't like the Liberals. This is why we accuse them of being in bed with big business. Some company can't be bothered to clean equipment properly and poisons a bunch of little guys ... give them money.
Some mom and pop store does the same thing with their home made ice cream ... you gotta know they aint getting 8 million dollars. They're going to jail and you know it.
The liberals are literally rewarding people for poisoning and getting members of the general public sick ! How can you vote for such a thing ? I know I can't.
A publicity campaign is also in the works to promote Quebec cheeses.
The three-year plan will go a long way towards restoring public trust in cheese safety, Lessard said.
but finding out who's responsible for the sickness's and arresting them... thats not part of the plan is it ? 20 people died from that disease , but no one is being punished for CRIMINAL NEGLECT , no , we just give them millions of dollars instead.
20th death linked to listeriosis outbreak
Phtt ! Damb liberals.

So am I gonna lose my job ?
So am I gonna lose my job if america goes all to pot ? I mean , I work in the cell phone industry for an american company right ?
Survey Says : I don't know.
so , ask an economist ?
Thats my biggest beef. An economist wont' tell you. They don't want to cause a panic. So they'll let you the little guy get screwed over big time and won't even warn you it's coming because that might cause a panic ! You might actually try to save yourself or something and make a big mess !
So I got to figure it out for myself, because these modern financial prophets ARE AS USELESS AS TEATS ON A BULL ! What good is knowing the truth if you always have to lie about it ? Doesn't help me a wit.
My guess is that everyone needs cell phones. Even guys living out of cars. People even abandon their home phones and have a cell phone only and nothing else.
My second guess is that if the american dollar goes to pot BY PRINTING 700 BILLION US DOLLARS then Canadian outsourcing may become too much for them to afford. Then again it may crap out our economy and drag our dollar down too.
My third guess is ... I don't know whats gonna happen. But the economists probably do. But they aint telling anything but comforting fairy tales right now in this time of crisis and you should ignore them.

Psi Wheel Fraud
How to make a psi wheel to demonstrate your psionic powers ..it reads.
Umm... this is the standard light sail demo. Nice light yellow post it sheet of paper , works when the hand isn't blocking the light, maybe a bit of heat coming off the hand to help it along.
Just because you're not touching it ... doesn't mean you're not touching it *grins*. There is still light , heat , and the ever favorite of all tricksters , gently blowing on it when no one is looking !
Enjoy this party trick , but don't take it seriously.

What will happen ?
What will happen if the bail out doesn't pass ?
that 23 THOUSAND dollars that they want to charge every man woman and child in the USA ? you get to keep it.
Your personal line of credit , your credit cards ? Dumped. Don't pay them off , just pay the minimum amount... if you pay them off now they'll just take them away from you. And there are better things to do than to dump your money down a credit card drain and watch them slurp it up and then say "thanks..but we don't have enough cash to cover this card for you , so we're cancelling it"
Pay your rent. If its possible. If it isn't one of those exploding mortgages that this month is only 750$ a month but next month it's 2000$ / month. If thats the case, pour money into getting your car fixed because you'll be living in it real soon.
Work. Drink some beer. Play some computer games. Wait. wait. Wait.
The houses are overpriced by a factor of five. That is to say 80% of the value of a house is phantom value , created by a huge demand powered by idiot politicians, and now the time has come to evapourate. They're saying 30% this year, 10% next ... So total of six years to bring it down to 20% of it's current mark , which is "normal" in an uninterfered market.
Dig in. Stock up. Food, not stocks. Examine your job critically. Is it likely to weather a storm ? Are you selling junk that isn't going to sell real soon ? It may be time to consider switching to one of the basic's. Food. Gas. Cell phones (no house no land line ..get a cell and live in a camper or car).
I predict campers are going to become big. For some reason. :)
Probably not a good time to be in the siding or window business. If you sell anything to home owners ... you're probably half way out the door. Sorry.
If you're in another country like I am (Canada) we didn't go insane ! We didn't give people with no credit check a hundred grand loan so they could buy a house ! Don't depend on anything that sells stuff to americans unless it's the bare necessities. Sorry , people living out of a car arn't interested in the finest quality canadian hockey skates.
But they are interested in cell phones. But not land lines.
Six years for the recovery. Twenty years for the people who got burned to quit telling the next kids in line to become adults soon how terrible and awful it all was don't even think about buying a house.
And then maybe they hit us again.
*sigh*

China tells lawyers helping parents of sickened babies to stop helping. CNN's Kyung Lah reports.
((it's a video so I can't quote it...suffice to say a chinese lawyer is interviewed by chinese authorities who tell him stop helping the victems of milk poisoning OR ELSE , in a country where jail , involintary organ donation , and the death sentence for even trivial matters are common ))
There are very serious consequences for getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar.
There are even worse consequences for doing everything in your power to cover it up , while protecting those who committed the crimes in the first place, thus effectively announcing to the world "We'll do what ever the heck we please, poison whatever the heck we please , and there's nothing you can do to stop it !"
Consequence number one is I'm not buying anything chinese every again. They're deliberately poisoning us. And then laughing at us when they get caught.
Consequence number two is that I'm writing my prime minister and demanding that anything from china , especially food , anything that has any kind of chinsese food additive of any sort , be labled accordingly. So that I can properly avoid these hateful buggers that think they can just poison who they like without a car
e in the world.
The cookies in that cookie jar make you sick. We don't want them, anymore. So , feel free to put your grubby disease ridden hand in that cookie jar all you want now, mainland china. I'm tossing my chinese cookies out. And I aint buying anymore.

CNN = A very large business organization. And there for a proponent of big business getting whatever it likes, like money.
Senior Political Analyst = Making politicians give CNN what CNN wants.
The financial markets have sent a clear signal of just how reckless the House of Representatives was today in rejecting the compromise bailout plan — no less than $1.2 trillion in stock values were wiped out in just a few hours.
Big Business lost money !!!!!
What can be done to get a bill through in the next few days? Here are some initial thoughts:
First, a ton of bricks needs to be dumped on the heads of those who voted against —
THEY DIDN'T GIVE ME MONEY !!!! THEY MUST BE HORRIBLY PUNISHED !!!!
Third, the White House and Congressional leaders should count heads to make sure that everyone who voted “yes” today will do so again in a second vote. If the 228-205 margin holds, that means they have to flip at least 12 Members for a second vote. It will be much more difficult to get all of the switches from the Republicans. Solution: put in enough sweeteners so that each side has a bit more and get an agreement between Nancy Pelosi and John Boehner: “I will deliver 6 from my side if you deliver 6 from yours.”
THEY MUST ALL VOTE TO GIVE US MONEY !!! NOTHING ELSE IS ACCEPTABLE !!!
This is big time stuff. Washington isn’t playing with matches here; it is playing with dynamite. For the sake of the country — and for our standing as a world power — we need LEADERSHIP!
I WANT MY MONEY !!!! 23 GRAND FROM EVERY MAN WOMAN AND CHILD FROM AMERICA !!! MY MONEY ! NOT THEIRS ! MINE MINE MINE MINE MINE MINE !!!!!!!!!
Umm.. I'm sorry , but this article may be somewhat prejudiced ?

Punishing Copyright Violators : IE: Record Industry Extortion
article = none , personal opinion
I have a wonderful idea.
I'm gonna sell vinyl records, and they're gonna have 24 songs each. And I'm gonna collect twelve dollars a pop for them. How about that ?
Ok, there's this thing called a tape cassette recorder that can record the sound and people can make illicit copies of those songs without paying for it.
Yeah , but the sound quality sucks. No worries, no one with money in their pocket is going to listen to their favorite tune filled with static, only young kids without a dime in their pocket do that.
years pass. Vinyl is replaced with CD's , and computers can now make digitally perfect copies.
I have a great idea. Lets make all these songs play only in certain approved devices and nothing else ? How about that ?
No. I have a better one. Lets Let them copy those songs like crazy, then start sueing them and extorting money like heck from them. That would be much more profitable.
You're kidding me !
In fact , now that we have these mp3 players and memory sticks and stuff ? Lets demand money for every single copy. So ...one for the cd itself , one for the one on the computer, one for the mp3 player, oh your wife has an mp3 player too ? Pay for her copy as well. So now we charge for 4 copies. And we only had to bother to manufacture one cd. I love this scheme !
Oh , and lets bribe some senators to alter the copy right laws so that you can't play your music in public or in doctors offices or anything or we fine the heck out of you.
And lets sell you copies on your cell phone as well, I love cell phones, because when the cell phone dies, we can declare the song non transferable. You have to buy another copy on your next cell phone.
So ... when did I have to keep pay and pay and pay to listen to my fave tunes ?
Oh , about last year.
Do the artists get any of this money ?
Not a single dime.

House Rejects Bailout Package, 228-205; Stocks Plunge
Article
WASHINGTON — In a moment of historic import in the Capitol and on Wall Street, the House of Representatives voted on Monday to reject a $700 billion rescue of the financial industry. The vote came in stunning defiance of President Bush and Congressional leaders of both parties, who said the bailout was needed to prevent a widespread financial collapse.
Umm...7 000 000 000 000 divided by 300 000 000 tax payers = 23,333$ for every man woman and child in america.
So, when americans were told "Give me 23 grand , each , or else [insert random financial bibble babble here]" they responded with their middle fingers.
Good for them !
This bail out is a sham from the get go. Who's responsible for stealing all of those houses from all of those consumers in the first place ? You refuse to answer that question , you refuse to even look into it , but you want the sheep you've already fleeced clean to now cough up another twenty three grand on top of it all ! Each !
No one trusts you anymore. And rightly so. If you're not going to do something constructive, like say fix the problem , punish the guilty , making sure it never happens again , making those sob's give the money back , things like that , then you need to just go away and quit annoying people.
The former Treasury Department official who predicted another House vote this week said that before there could be another vote, he would expect Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the California Democrat, and Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, the Republican minority leader, to approach members with seats in safe districts and tell them, in effect: “You’ve got to do this. The fate of the country hangs on your vote.”
The fate of the country lies in stringing you up from the nearest tree with a noose rather than let you BUTT FUCK THE WHOLE FUCKING WORLD a second time. Thats what the fate of the country lies in.
What kind of asses are you fools ? "We screwed up. Give us 23 grand, each , so we can try it again. And no, you're never getting that money back. And you're still bankrupt. Don't default on that over priced high interest mortgage we screwed you into taking out in the first place. And no , I know we gave you that money to get a house, and you bought a house in good faith , but you're not getting that house back. You must continue to live out of your car."
But you did , however , accomplish one thing.
Supporters vowed to try to bring the rescue package up again as soon as possible, perhaps late Wednesday or Thursday, but there were no definite plans to do so
DON'T LOWER THE PRICES ON THOSE TOXIC HOUSES YET YOU MAY STILL GET EVERY LAST PENNY WE'RE GONNA TRY AGAIN !!!!
And so america is consigned to living out of their cars for a little while longer while you try one more time to get A HUGE HONKING TON OF BLOOD from a tiny already exhausted little pebble left out in the cold with no home. You can't give up on getting seven thousand million dollars that quick can you ? Seven thousand new millionaires ? Every member of congress, every lobbiest , every big business chairman , they all get a cool million. Just need to cooperate a little longer ..just a little longer ....
You want a solution to this manufactured problem ? I'll give you a solution.
Take all those over priced houses and start renting them out to the guys living in parking lots , at rates they can afford, and accept your losses instead of trying to sell them at their current five times what they're really worth and having no one live in them and collecting no money from them.
How about that for a solution ?

Breakthrough reached on $700B U.S. bailout: Pelosi
Article
The plan would spend up to $700 billion US, most of it on buying deeply devalued mortgages from the housing market's collapse and other bad loans held by tottering banks and other investors.
You must understand the esoteric dynamics of the free market economie. Or , in laymans speak, SIMPLE UNFETTERED GREED !!!
DON'T LOWER THOSE PRICES ON THOSE HOUSES YET UNCLE SAM IS GONNA BUY THEM AT A PERCENTAGE SO THE HIGHER WE KEEP THEM THE MORE MONEY WE GET !!!!!
And to heck with the fact that no one can afford to rent any place right now because you've driven the rental prices so high.
What the us government really needs to do is cut these people lose and let the pack of greedsters simply collapse. That will educate them on the necessity of long term thinking. All you're doing now is teaching them to rip anyone off any how and uncle Sam will fix it all up later on and thats when we make our big profit.

Turn to NDP to stop Harper, resurgent Layton says after NDP poll gains
OTTAWA — A resurgent NDP Leader Jack Layton called on voters to flock to him as the only legitimate alternative to the Conservatives after national polls showed the traditional also-ran party closing in on second place.
"Here in B.C., the choice is very clear, if you want to stop (Stephen) Harper only New Democrats can do it," he told a rally in Vancouver.
Vote for me !
Not because I deserve your vote !
Not because I'm in any way smart or talented or qualified for the job !
I may even be the dumbest one of all !
But if you hate that other guy , vote for me !
Yeah... truely a well reasoned argument. I'll pass, thanks.

How to Become a Programmer
Article
Unlike what you might find in some books and articles, programming can not be actually learned in 7, 21 or even 365 days[1]. It is a cumulative process that builds up your skills day after day and year after year. However, programming can also be fun and rewarding (mentally, spiritually and financially). This guide does not promise to give a magical easy way to becoming a programmer, and the ordering of the steps is not sacred, but you'll get a general outline of how to become a programmer in one of the modern programming fields
Step One : Move to India
The truth of the matter is, if you aint fixing something here in the country (whatever country) , then any job that can is being shipped out to low paying countries like china and India. So you can forget about "brain" work , it's all leaving the country. All the western countries.
Learn to fix something thats here. Cars, elevators, computers, whatever. Shipping a physical object to another country for repair is far too pricy. Repair men are the only safe bets for a career these days.
Other "safe" jobs are cashiers and sales men , but these are scum jobs that no one really wants that pay the minimum legally permitted and are not likely to ever see a pay raise.
Medical staff is good, forget about doctors their numbers are too controlled (250 a year) but running an x ray machine or other device, playing nurse and cleaning up "medical" messes, these can't be outsourced and they pay well. Either because they require skill and education , or because they're unpleasant and no body noooooooo body !!! wants to do them so they have to pay a decent salary. (Hey buddy, how'd you like 8$ / hour to wipe some old fogeys bum twice a day ? No ? How about 10 ? 12 ? 15 ? ) And they all require you to be physically present.
We need to ban robots. Last thing we need is some guy in india operating a robot remotely to do this stuff. Then we're really toast. Thats when you start closing the borders and everyone runs their own economy and builds their own stuff.

Who's to Blame for the Bailout Deal's Stumble?
Article
Talk about a manipulated media.
No one wants to know who's responsible for the rich ass banks not getting richer. They want to know who's responsible for the whole mortgage disaster in the first place. who got rich ? who's holding all the houses now (the banks) stuff like that.
But no one asks that question.
I see it on blog entries and on responses to news articles on those sites that permit reader feed back. But I don't see it in the main stream news.
Main stream news sometimes desgusts me. Not for what they print. But for what they scrupulously avoid printing. For the questions they out right refuse to ask. I think bloggers have found their place , at times like this. Bloated businesses that run on selling ads and don't want to hurt the businesses proping them up have long ago lost their impartiality. They no longer serve the public. They no longer serve anything but themselves.

Linux: the girlfriend test
Linux: the girlfriend test
Our writer subjects Linux to the most exacting useability test yet devised: his girlfriend
A fascinating article I'm sure.
I taught my wife how to use computers. eg: WinXP and then Linux. Well... she's a non computer person. I taught her how to use fire fox, thats all she ever uses.
She never noticed when I put the second computer in the living room , and put Linux on it. Fire fox was fire fox. Click and it opens ...enter the same addresses as usual.
Her and a friend were using it, and I said "You realize you're on Linux, not Windows, right ?"
And the response was "So ? It works ? Why should I care ?"
Some how ... I was expecting it to be a harder sell.
2 years on the living room computer. No anti-virus program. No weird tool bars, no slow downs, no crashes, no reformats. No weird pop ups trying to sell you junk have your credit card ready thank you muchly.
I don't let her near my windows machine anymore. Have to be careful of that thing. If you're not careful Bill Gates will get you and screw it all up. And then the pain begins.

The Underdogg speaks
Dion set to unveil Liberal platform
This blog entry is a little odd since I'm not responding to the listed news article from cbc.ca , rather , there are blog like comments at the bottom left by ordinary citizens. This one was left by someone using the handle Underdogg.
I chose him because he belongs to the crowd that likes to use the word "neo-con" a lot and generaly despises the conservatives and thinks they can do no right and Dion can do no wrong.
I don't bother responding to CBC because they filter all of my responses and ignore them, and only guys like this get to post. Someone of a prejudiced point of view for a newspaper, but they are big business , and the "neo-cons" are anti big business arn't they ?

Whaaaa ! Make me prime minister ! I wanna be prime minister ! Thats why I'm running this race !Waaaaaa !
Ha ha. Not tempered by potential political gain indeed.
And the remark about him being non canadian is a remark about how Quebec consider's itself a seperate nation, not about his actual legal citizenship. Answer the question asked , don't make up your own and answer that , thats a straw man argument tactic.
Well put. Neo cons have tried their best to paint Stephane as non Canadian. Conservative mps Tony Clement and Myron Thomson also hold dual citizenship. I don't hear the cons complaining about that. But hey, lying is a part of being a conservative so we shouldn't be surprised.
Your fair and even view of one politician against another is so noted , Underdogg. I'm sure it won't take much to dig up a few promises Stephen Dion made to get here that he didn't fullfill, but I'm equilly sure you'll brush that off as not counting.
Unfortunately, the Canadian electorate does not properly investigate potential political leaders. They vote based on the soundbites. Dion is not a proficient public speaker in english and that is unfortunately what he is judged on rather than on his bold political decisions.
bold political decision ? TAX EVERYONE TO THE HILT ! TAX TAX TAX TAX TAX !!!!
Yeah ...too bold for me , thanks.
It's unfortunate that he is not seen for the potentially good leader he might be as a result of his accent and public speaking difficulties.
Canadians vote for pm on the same basis they voted for their high school leaders. Very sad.
ABC.
Cretian made prime minister despite a heavy accent and a speach impediment (half his mouth was paralized so he could only speak out one side of it) . But the "Neo-Libs" Like Underdogg here conveniently forget that example.

With obesity levels higher than in any other state except Mississippi, Alabama's insurance board chief William Ashmore and his staff of workplace wellness advocates decided it was time for a change.
We have to do something about all these fat people !
I know. Lets ban all that advertising on TV about how McDogfood meals are good for you and you should eat there three times a day. Don't forget to supersize it !
No ...can't do that. That would hurt big business, this is america , we don't do that here.
I know. Lets run ads on TV describing what exactly is a healthy diet and what isn't , and then let people make up their own minds !
No... can't do that. Every fast food joint and holistic con artist medicine clinic in the country would be up in arms over that and boot us out of office. This is America , we don't do that here.
I know ! Lets open an official weight loss chain of clinics with real dieticians and doctors and everything instead of those con artists that just take your money and blame you for their fraudulent weightloss program failing ! Lets do it for real !
No , we can't do that. Fraudulent weight loss clinics are big business in America , and we don't punish big business here , I believe I already mentioned that.
Dang. I'm out of good idea's.
Ok. How about this ? Lets tax them for being fat and let them figure it out for themselves ?
Thats the stupidest thing I ever heard of.
Well...thats what we have left. I'm out of idea's too. Lets give it a try.

Dion some kind of racist
Attention to North nation-building: Harper
"We cannot win against the Americans, we cannot win against the Russians, and, as I have said, we are too civilized to shoot the Danes." - Stephen Dion
If Stephen Dion is gonna call out the liberals on the mat for making that "Death of a Thousand Cold Cuts" comment , I wanna call him out for making fun of the Danes. That's just rude , insensitive , and probably some kind of racism.

Let me tell you a story about american corporate greed.
Long ago , the Law Makers of America decided that the good people of that country should get mortgages one and all ,and if the banks wouldn't give them one , then the American Government felt it was their duty to back those mortgages and guarentee repayment. Then everyone could own their own houses.
The Banks and mortgage companies looked at this scheme, and saw a chance for extra profit. They would give highly reduced rates of interest for the first two years that anyone could pay, then much higher rates later on that would effectively force the place into bankruptcy. Because if it went bankrupt, the government would pay every penny they were owed , but if it didn't, the people would only pay a pittence in mortgage payments that was hardly worth the trouble. The fact that they were cheating the people out of their homes that the government was giving them meant not a witt to the corporate culture Pigs.
And so time passed. And the two years ran out. And many many MANY mortgages were sold and came due. And all the Mortgage companies and Banks went running to the government saying "It's time for you to pay up now , as you promised."
And now the government is on the hook for 700 Billion dollars.
But no one has any houses to live in.
And they can't afford to buy any Canadian Hockey Skates, or Chinese Silk Scarfs , or eat in fine restaurants anymore. So anyone who's selling anything to the USA suddenly is watching their prime customers suddenly stop buying everything. And so this affects the whole wide world , and not just the Americans.
But some corporate pigs are very rich now.
They would have done better to put the money into a pile and just burned it as heating fuel.
And that is the story of American Capitalism at it's Finest.

Death By A Thousand Cold Cuts
Dion: Ritz must be fired
Liberal Leader Stephane Dion said Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz must be fired for his incompetence managing the listeriosis crisis and a dire lack of sensitivity shown to victims by making wisecracks about the outbreak.
He was making fun of the Maple Leaf company , not any individual ("Death by a thousand cold cuts" was the remark in question). I would too. Another Dion Distortion.
And by the way , I'd fire the minister too. Not for the remark, but for letting all those Health Inspectors getting bamboozled into doing nothing but look at paperwork that says "Yes, we're following the rules" from those factories rather than go out and see for them selves. That's just corrupt to a fair thee well.
I notice Dion is pretty quiet about that part though. When were those paper work rules put into effect ? A Liberal regime I'll bet. Too pro business for the conservitive to pull a stunt like that.
And I notice Dion isn't saying anything bad about any big business's THAT BURIED THE INSPECTORS IN PAPER WORK SO THEY COULDN'T DO THEIR JOBS and caused this mess in the first place. No no no ... only blame my political enemey , no one else ! Definately not my big business friends !
I can smell the corruption from here.

The Ultimate US Rip Off
Some Seek Agency to Buy Bad Debt as Long-Term Answer
WASHINGTON — As the Bush administration has lurched from pillar to post in the financial crisis, some lawmakers and experts were considering a longer-term legislative solution that would create a new agency to dispose of the mortgage-related assets at the core of Wall Street’s woes.
Yet another SOMEBODY GIVE US FREE MONEY rant.
Or is it ?
This touches upon a weird notion I've noticed in American News Media for quite some time now. This notion that all money is a confidence game , nothing more. Confidence is everything or the whole house of card collapses.
Now why , I wonder would they be thinking that ?
Because the US Government controls the cash flow. A fancy way of saying they can PRINT MORE MONEY !!! any time they like.
Ok. I'll print up some money and buy out these bad debts. But not too much , if people catch me printing too much they'll know the american dollar is actually backed up by NOTHING AT ALL !!! instead of thinking it's worth something. So I'll just print up only a little. And the game will continue. The economy won't collapse today. Maybe tommorow , but tommorow isn't my watch , only today.
And everytime they print more money , the US dollar becomes worth a little less. They are taking from everyone who has anything pegged to the US dollar , and collecting by way of dumping these useless mortgages and paying off the lenders.
It's like the whole world economy is one vast lake, and every now and then the americans take a straw and stick it in the lake and sip out just a little more. Every time they print more money , thats what they're doing.
It's a unique position. Everything is pegged to the american dollar , so what are you going to do ? Peg it to something else ? Yeah , we used to peg it to gold, but we found we could make more money if we let it "float" (forgetting that the money you're making is now just blank pieces of paper with nothing backing it up) So it looks great on the accounting books !
Hmph ! It really is a con game.
If I actually had any cash I'd buy gold.
Oops...thats illegal. They already know about that loop hole !
Hmmm......

A Wonderful Dion Type Idea
Dion promises massive funding boost for universities, students
During a campaign stop in Welland, Ont., on Wednesday, Conservative Leader Stephen Harper again took aim at the various programs promised daily by his opponents, calling the level of spending proposed by Dion and Layton "mindboggling."
I have a wonderful Idea.
I will promise to spend billions , because my name is Dion and I know I aint gonna win the next election. And then I will spend the next few years harrassing the conservatives about why aren't they fulfilling my wonderful idea's ? It's perfect really when you think about it.
What could possibly go wrong ?

- I pick up a few extra seats from those suckers who believe it will actually happen.
- I get free ammo to throw at my hated enemey during the next session of parliment
- And no one will actually do such a stupid thing anyways, so there's no risk of it actually happening.
What could possibly go wrong ?
More Microsoft Lies
Microsoft hails open source outreach
Microsoft continued to make its case on Tuesday that it is a friend to open source, listing a number of efforts it has undertaken in spaces ranging from Linux to virtualization and rich Internet application technology.
Yeah , we're a friend of Open Source , honest we are !
But that new document standard we bamboozled you open source guys into accepting , the one thats copy writed to the hilt so only microsoft products can use it and we get to sue anyone else who tries to use this "Standard" ? Yeah , that stays. We're not changing that.
Ottawa debit card fraudster hits Algonquin College cafeteria
More than 20 students at a college in Ottawa found money missing from their bank accounts after a debit card reader at a campus cafeteria was tampered with and then stolen.
Yep yep yep. We had a good run with debit cards. Carry plastic, muggers have nothing to steal because you only got 20 bucks on you. But it's over now. No re-embursment means the only sensible thing to do is the bank machines with the cameras pointing at them all the time , nothing else.
Back to carrying large amounts of cash again.
Oh you can stretch it out a little. Stay out of stores and don't use those tiny small machines that can be carted away by one person. But how long until those go to ? Do you want to be the first victem ?

Dollar Store Milk
Probe finds 20 percent of China milk companies in scandal
SHIJIAZHUANG, China (Reuters) - Twenty percent of Chinese dairy firms probed in the wake of a baby milk health scare have been found to have produced melamine-tainted formula, state media reported on Tuesday.
Dollar Store milk. Cheap as can be and you get what you paid for. Deliberately tainted to pass protien content tests , farmers who don't give a rats behind about anything but making a buck , which is worth a lot in china , and regulators who sweep it all under the rug and you don't hear about nothing for months and months and months ...
And don't forget all those dollar store gew gaws that come pre-broken. Radios that don't work right out of the package, electrical cables that failed ... broken broken broken and still in the original wrapping.
Tell me again why we are in any kind of trade agreement with these fools ? Broken gew gaws and poisoned toothpaste, milk ,and whatever else comes next is not an acceptable price for some companies to turn a few bucks.

Uninhibited Liberal Lies
Leaders trade barbs over economy as markets slide
Speaking in St. John's on Monday, Dion said Canada's economic growth had slipped to among the lowest of the G8 nations under the watch of Harper, who has a "record of economic mismanagement that has not been matched since Brian Mulroney."
He lowered the gst from 7% to 5%, and we didn't run a deficiet during his administration.
I don't know if Dion is out right lying or there's some tiny grain of truth that they're blowing way out of proportion , rather like TV advertising. But it's getting annoying to here this constant diatrabe of falsehoods and distortions. I have no real strong preference of one leader over the other, at least I didn't at the beginning. But now my impression of Dion is LOUD AND DISHONEST !
Does he just make this junk up ? Is there any basis at all for it ?
The Liberal leader said the income tax cuts provided under the Green Shift plan would stimulate the economy in key areas, while Harper's "gimmicks" would pull Canada closer to a recession.
Speaking of gimmicks, how about we promise to cut peoples income tax , unless you live in energy rich alberta ? Those guys we give the screws to and rip them for every penny we can. How about that for a gimmick ?
Are you talking about Harper or are you talking about yourself , Dion ? Because you're the only one with a gimmicky plan that sacrifices some canadians (non quebecers) to benifit others (quebecers, and oh yeah , we let a few others come along for the ride too so it isn't too obvious)

Central Banks move to give more money to the rich
Central banks move to shore up financial system
The European Central Bank [ECB], the Bank of England, the United States Federal Board and the Bank of Canada have all either offered up extra cash for debt-heavy financial service companies to borrow, or relaxed the collateral requirements that would allow these firms to access existing cash from central banks.
What does it mean, "relaxed the collateral requirements" ?
The extra cash part is easy to understand. Oh poor rich bank ! Let me give you some cash ! You don't have to pay it back ever !
Also on Monday, the U.S. Federal Reserve said it would allow mortgage-backed paper to be used as collateral for firms borrowing from the central bank.
Oh I see. All those mortgages that are about to be defaulted on ? You can trade them in for cash and when they default the US taxpayer will take the hit and not you poor little bank backed by all the rich dudes who were promised by the government they wouldn't lose a dime.
The Fed move followed a similar shift by the Bank of Canada last week. Canada's central bank relaxed the type of assets it would accept from financial companies accessing its cash pools.
Whats this ? When did Canada start donating money to rich US citizens ? What idiot dreamed up this plan ? If this is true , it means that not only did this mortgage fiasco take the US taxpayers to the cleaners, it took Canadians too !
I PROTEST ! WHY ARE WE GIVING MONEY TO RICH AMERICANS ! THIS IS STUPID STUPID STUPID !!!!
Lack of due diligence (Yes, another Taser rant)
Article
It reportedly criticized the stun-gun research of the Canadian Police Research Centre (the research arm of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police), finding its reports were not adequately peer-reviewed, lacked important information and included inaccurate data.
.

.
The RCMP's willingness to rely on the manufacturer of the weapon for advice in how to deploy it may have been the first instance of poor judgment by the police force when it comes to tasers, but certainly not the last
.
.
.
The coziness of the relationship between Taser International and Canadian police forces has already been made clear - including payments (and stock options) to a researcher at the Canadian Police Research Centre, and sponsorship of police chiefs' conferences over the years (most recently a $25,000 platinum sponsorship of last month's conference).
And thats how americans do business. They purchase their customers, lock stock and barrel. They issue false research about how wonderful their own product is ("...lacked important information and included inaccurate data.") and they just tell you "Trust me ! We know what we're doing , we're not biased !"
This isn't a police force being tricked by a deceitful american company. This is outright corruption.
The RCMP's failure to fulfill its responsibility to objectively assess the impact of the weapons in developing its own policies may well have played a role in the 22 taser-related deaths in the past five years.
And there are 22 dead bodies that need answering for thanks to this corruption.

Liberals promise homeowners $575M in incentives to 'green' homes
Article
And the rich get richer. Certainly poor people don't own houses. You can tell this party only has rich people as members in it.
"We have a plan to help people to adapt, to help especially middle- and low-income Canadians," Dion said.
Umm...how does helping rich people with their houses help middle and low income Canadians ? The article doesn't say. Mr Dion seems to believe that giving free money away to the rich only is good for all.
Dion plan faces a tough sell to voters in B.C. who are already contending with a provincial carbon tax that kicked in on July 1 and added 2.3 cents to the price of a litre of gasoline.
.
.
.
"Aren't we going to take an unfair double hit?" asked one concerned resident.
Dion responded that he would seek to find a solution, noting that he served as intergovernmental affairs minister for eight years and knows how to negotiate with provinces.
Losely translated , "Yep ! You're gonna take a double whacking ! Thanks for voting for us idiot !"
Negotiate with the provinces , yeah right. They're making money off their carbon tax they're not going to give that up. Especially if it turns out to be the opposing party in power. BC is going to get done dirty if you get elected and you know it.

I have a wonderful idea ! Lets ask the greedy pigs who got us into this morgage mess for advice on what to do next ! yeah yeah , that's a great idea !
These people just took the world to the cleaners. What are you doing asking them for advice ? You want to get extra EXTRA cleaned out ?

Tories suggest Dion would reverse popular policies
Article
At a news conference in Ottawa, Lawrence Cannon, incumbent for Pontiac riding in Quebec, and Jason Kenney, incumbent for Calgary Southeast, suggested any move to take away the Tories' $1,200-a-year child-care benefit would hit low-income Canadians.
Unfortunately , when Dion stands around saying it's a bad idea you shouldn't give canadians 1 200 a year ... you are open to such remarks. Too bad.
Allegations of Dion supporting a GST increase is "yet another lie from a party whose leader has allowed the price of gas the pumps to rise 70 cents a litre since the Conservatives took office," Liberal spokesman Mark Dunn said in an e-mail to media Monday.
So... gas prices arn't under the prime ministers control. Even if Dion was prime minister , he wouldn't be able to do anything about it. So this comes under the catagory of "Yet another lie from the leader that (insert lie here)" ?
Sadly , there are those who believe this kind of nonsense. Thats why they keep doing it.

U.S. Rescue Seen at Hand for 2 Mortgage Giants
Article
WASHINGTON — Senior officials from the Bush administration and the Federal Reserve on Friday called in top executives of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the mortgage finance giants, and told them that the government was preparing to place the two companies under federal control, officials and company executives briefed on the discussions said.
And now the final act of this sad sad play comes to a close.
The executives were told that, under the plan, they and their boards would be replaced and shareholders would be virtually wiped out, but that the companies would be able to continue functioning with the government generally standing behind their debt, people briefed on the discussions said.
The share holders of these two companies get the shaft, their stocks become worthless.
Under a conservatorship, the common and preferred shares of Fannie and Freddie would be reduced to little or nothing, and any losses on mortgages they own or guarantee could be paid by taxpayers. Shareholders have already lost billions of dollars as the stocks have plunged more than 80 percent this year.
And the banks get their money in the end. Ha ha. We get paid. Always. No matter what. You wanna get rich ? Invest in the banks. Just not Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac !
It would allow for uninterrupted operation of the companies, crucial players in the diminished mortgage market, where they are now responsible for nearly 70 percent of new loans.
Oh good, the government and the tax payer is now responsible for SEVENTY PERCENT of all new loans in the country. The banks had quite the party , now the tax payer picks up the tab.
It's an evil thing. The Americans flood the market with their cheap stereo's and computers , kill off the local competition so everyone become dependent on them , then they pull a stunt like this and everyone in the world gets the shaft , not just one bumbling incompetant country. These pigs didn't just soak the americans, they soaked everyone in the whole world for every dime they could steal.
Now the americans won't buy anything from anyone , which is why we let them in the door in the first place, because they don't have any houses to live in ! Half of them are living in parking lots and trailer parks because they got taken to the cleaners in this scam , and some lady living in her car in a parking lot isn't going to buy a new scarf from china to took pretty. So much for all those two way trade agreements.
These jerk weeds are in the habit of doing this every what ? Ten years , fifteen years ? We need to seperate from this roller coaster ride of an economy , not get closer ties to it.
We have our own artists you know. Maybe we should make our own TV shows and music video's instead of learning all about american culture and not even our own canadian children knowing about canadian culture ? And we have our own engineers, I have the utmost confidence we can make our own computers and cars and stuff, for local sale only.
Privacy Concerns Over Chrome Omnibox
Article
Wow, this article just went bleep ! and disapeared so fast from my google home page it took me days to find it again. It speaks about the new google sponsored Chrome Browser.
Currently, according to TechNewsWorld, everything you type in the location bar – be it a URL or search query – could be logged, along with your IP address, by Google. You don’t even have to hit enter.
Big brother is watching you.
Who'd have thunk it would be big business instead of corrupt political interests ? George Orwell's 1984 was right in so many ways, and wrong in so many ways ...

Big Business Papers
Article = none , personal opinion
As I sit at the coffee shop drinking my poison I look at the newspaper over the guys shoulder at the next table. It's at the editorial page. Prime Minister Must Keep Word, Conservatives Break Word on Fixed Date Election Promise , and more... and I start to see a pattern.
The Newspapers are big business.
Why is this important you ask ?
The Conservatives get their money from the unions and the average citizen of Canada. The Liberals usually get a check from big business to cover expenses. And this gives them loyalty to those sources. But lately the conservatives snuck in a law to limit election spending and donations, and now big business cannot give the Liberals the huge chunks of money they typically demand to get elected , and so they don't. And we get conservative after conservative government. Because elections are voted on by people , not businesses, and all things being equil people are going to vote for themselves.
Its a sad commentary that you can buy an election with money.
Newspapers are big business, and their doing their darndest to pick on the current government. But the issue is too obscure, no one cares. what does it matter if the date is fixed or not for when you call an election ? The opposition can bring down the house and call an election any time if they thought they could win so it's still not fixed anyways.
The saddest commentary of all is that our so called neutril newspapers, our defenders of truth , are not so neutril after all. They have a vested interest in who wins and are fighting for it.
Call me a dreamer. But just once I'd like to see things go as planned, and not see corruption ringing through out the land as everyone grabs what they can and tells you THE HECK with everyone else.
(Edit : The new laws prohibit unions and businesses from making political donations. Only private individuals, no one else , may contribute to a political party. Found that out later after showing this article to a friend.)

Russia alleges aid for Georgia included weapons
Article
Russia on Monday accused "foreign navy ships" of delivering weapons to Georgia as the European Union met to discuss possible sanctions against Moscow.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also said the West would be making a mistake of "historic scope" if it continued to support Georgia.
.
.
.
"If the United States and its allies ultimately opt for the Saakashvili regime, which has not taken any lessons from the recent events regarding South Ossetia ... they will make a mistake of an historic scope," the news agency Interfax quoted Lavrov as saying.
He said Russia would continue taking measures against the Saakashvili administration "to ensure that this regime will never commit evil again."
Ah, the propaganda mill is now at full power. Seed this georgian state with russian loyalists, have them seperate, and then come in and grab all the land when georgia retaliates.
Reminds me of Gemany's invasion of France in world war two , since were on the topic of "mistakes of historic scope" by the way. germany claimed one little province was full of germanic people and so it was their right to go in there and protect them.
Yeah , that didn't work out so well for germany, and I don't think it's going to work out so well for russia either. No one wants a preditor kicking around snapping up pieces of everyones land. That just ticks everyone off.
It feels like they're playing chess, they've carefully calculated all the moves and responses , and know what they're going to do next. Except for the fact that war isn't a chess game, it's a poker game. And no one is guarenteed any victories. Not even the best player of all.

Dell making cheap computers for India, China
Article
Beijing-based Lenovo, which acquired IBM Corp.'s PC unit in 2005, is targeting China's vast but poor rural market with a basic PC released last year and priced as low as 1,499 yuan ($220).
I just want to sit in the coffee shop and work on my novel.
My sister bought a lap top. 600$, no windows disk, they want another 400$ for the disk in case the lap top crashes. (Vista).
My wife bought a 59$ childs toy that looks like a lap top and plays 30 different games and makes cool noises and everything. Doesn't do word processing, not even on plain ascii text files.
Three years ago there was a 220$ lap top released in china. But not in north america.
We're being gypped. All these manufacturers have a lock on the market and are keeping the prices sky high. The low priced stuff is for other people , it's banned in here by various anti-competitive agreements.
There's a story floating around about how some company was going to have word perfect or some other non microsoft word processor installed on their windows computers when they sold them. Microsoft found out about it and bluntly told them that if they tried it they would stop selling them copies of windows and so they'd have no operating system to go with it.
I think it's the same thing going on here.
And I know it's the same thing going on with coke and pepsi. You walk into a store, and you see only coke products and you ask why there are no pepsi products at all , and the store owner tells you when the coke is delivered the driver checks for competeing products , and if he finds any the store loses a big discount it's getting for being a coke only provider.
The consumer is not being well served by this kind of nonsense. We're being robbed.
Why the hell can you make a childs toy lap top with 50 different educational games on it for 59$ , but you can't make a simple text editor with the same get up ? And a simple usb port to upload/download from your main computer ?
We're being robbed.

Putin accuses U.S. of orchestrating Georgian war
Article
(CNN) -- Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has accused the United States of orchestrating the conflict in Georgia to benefit one of its presidential election candidates.
Oh please !
You've already sullied your reputation with this "we're pulling out ! Honest we're pulling out ...yeah we changed our mind we're just going to put on peace keeper hats now that we've killed off 1500 civilians ..."
Why would anyone think anything dribbling out of you two tongued bile filled mouth was anything but a wanton pack of lies ? Why don't you just open up a branch of Pravda again and we can get the lies officially from your usual propaganda mill that you ran all through the cold war , if you want to start down that path again.
Do you see USA invading their neibours ? No ! The only ones they invade are the ones with massive crowds shouting "DEATH TO AMERICA" and Imans on the TV explaining how the only way they'll stop their war on the USA is if everyone converts to their particular brand of Islam and becomes their personal slaves.
Don't think Georgia was saying that to Russia. So why do we have 1500 dead georgians at the hands of russian troops who are still occupying the place ?
Another failed democracy , with it's dictator for life and it's ethnic cleansing agenda. Thats all russia is. And it should be treated as such.

'Social injustice is killing people on a grand scale': report
Article
People are dying early not only because of health gaps between rich and poor countries but also because of a lack of housing and clean water in wealthy countries like Canada, policy-makers said in a report to the World Health Organization on Thursday.
You're an idiot.
People are not dying because of social injustice. They're dying because half the world lives in petty little dictatorships (like Burma) that ACTIVELY TRY TO KILL their own population. Thats not social injustice and you can't just throw food at it. Thats active murder, thats ethnic cleansing , or racial genocide or whatever you want to call it.
They're not dying because they're poor. They're dying because they're being shot at by their own government ! (or deliberately starved to death , or whatever)
What a pack of fools this world health organization is.
In Canada, nearly 1.5 million people, mostly single mothers and children, lack decent family income, safe and affordable housing, suffer food insecurity and are vulnerable to violence, said the group's Canadian commissioner, Monique Bégin, a former federal health minister and a professor in the school of management at the University of Ottawa.
Explain to me again why these welfare bums all drive nice cars and I who work for a living cannot afford even an old beater ? You should have seen the line up of pretty cars at my friends wedding. The brides family were all on welfare. It was ridiculous.
Food banks in Canadian cities, unacceptable housing, high suicide rates among young Inuit, and the uprooting of Kashechewan Cree community from the James Bay region in 2005 and 2008 because of unsafe water and flooding are examples of areas for improvements, Bégin said.
The indians choose to live there, we can't control that and it shouldn't be counted against us. They're free to come on in to any city they like and get a job, and they get free education all the way through university and don't pay sales tax on anything either. Don't complain about the indians turning their backs on civilization thats their own doing.

Movie paints picture of catastrophic future
Article
OMAHA, Nebraska (AP) -- The catastrophe looming in the documentary "I.O.U.S.A." isn't romantic like the doomed young love in "Titanic," but billionaires Warren Buffett and Pete Peterson warn it could break many more hearts.
The assumption here is that someone actually pays for those government bonds the government has been selling.
The truth is.... aint gonna happen.
The currency will be devalued as the debt grows higher , prices will rise , savings will grow worthless , and the amount owed, in american dollars will grow less because american dollars will become worth less.
And so there will be a series of slow adjustments as prices rice and the dollar falls so that the interest paid doesn't ever grow to be too much of the economy.
And lenders like these two billionairs will take a bath , in blood , over their losses.
The truth is in 1886 a bottle of coke cost a nickle (and had cocain in it), now it's almost two bucks. That would be 2000% inflation a century.
but .. the national debt was less than 100$ / person in 2004 dollars in 1900 , now it's over 20 000$ / person
22cents / hr x 20 = $4.40 an hour today. And that's average , not a dead end minimum wage earner.
Obviously people have grown wealthier over time on top of the value of the dollar decreasing.
In the end , if it worries you , buy real objects. Gold (illegal in most western countries) land , invest in a grocery store because people always gotta eat , and you'll weather any storm.

How to be a Scum Bag Advertiser
How to Spin Bad News
Create alternate event descriptions:

I delay decided NOT to buy your over priced crud ! I mean I mean ... I delayed a premium buying decision...
so how do I say "No, you're stuff is crud, I aint buying it ?" in this parlance ? Ummm.... you don't.
You didn't have ineffective marketing; you delayed premium advertising to coincide with the delayed buying decisions.
Our sales team doesn't suck ! We just some how psychically knew it wouldn't work so they didn't try very hard this quarter , thats all !
You aren't laying off sales employees; you're elevating the consumer's experience through added independence.
We didn't fire half our staff ! We just decided the consumer was smart enough not to have ten people holding their hand while they wandered the store looking lost and calling out for someone to help them. Yeah , thats what we did. We enhanced their shopping experience with the independence you get from wandering alaska alone with no help at all ,yeah yeah ...
Roleplay and improve: To do this properly, it takes a group of people dedicated to the result. You will need several "devil's advocate" types to listen to the presentation and slice it to pieces. You want to know every possible argument ahead of time. Use small focus groups and make the presentation, then tweak it, then do it again. Each time the backlash is reduced, you've made an effective improvement. Eventually (after 4 or 5 sessions) you should get to a stable point.

Don't fall for your own spin. It sounds good, makes sense... but seriously, you know better. You built the twist - don't let it go to your head.

Please Don't Abandon Windows : 7 online security blunders whereby IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT !
Seven online-security blunders to avoid
1. Assuming your security software is protecting you
Keep your anti-virus software up to date.
Wrong ! Most anti-virus software is crap , even norton and mcaffery. They shout loud and long about the tiny little bit that they do and then blame you because their job is impossible so they're not even going to give it that good a try. Oh yeah , but keep paying us for trying to do the impossible ! Keep that virus subscription up to date even though it doesn't do a dang thing !
2. Accessing an account through an e-mail link
Thats where you click on a link in an email and it takes you to a look alike sight. Please update your banking information or we shut down your account ! If you fall for it, they empty out your bank account and rack up your credit card to max. Maybe the only good advice in the whole article.
3. Using a single password for all online accounts
I have a wonderful idea ! Lets make my banking password 1234 or something equilly trivial so everyone and the dog can guess it in less than five tries ?
Bank machines have been around for decades. people know not to do this. You're basically giving trite advice like look both ways before you cross the street.
4. Downloading free software
"We're not saying, 'Don't do it.' We're saying, 'Just do it from places you know are safe,' " Fox said.
For most of you out there , that translates into "Don't Do It" by the way.
5. Thinking your Mac shields you from all risks
Honest ! Other operating systems have problems too ! Don't even think of switching away from windows you naughty boy it won't save you a witt !
Umm...actually .. you should switch away from windows. Why ? Crack addicts have a few problems. Windows is just plain smoked when it comes to virii and trojens. Just because you can point to one or two tiny weaknesses (that you already covered earlier in the article) and say they have it too ! Does not unsmoke windows. it is the leading champion for becoming virus laden nightmares in the fewest number of hours. My complaint against mac's has to do with it being over priced, not being insecure (based on a linux core so it's got security right from the get go)
6. Clicking on a pop-up ad that says your PC is not secure
And then proceed to give advice on how to deal with this windows only problem. After just saying mac's have problems too. Nice.
7. Shopping online the same way you do in stores
Ignore the fancy pants advice. Just don't do it. It's like shopping at those little kiosks that appear in the middle of a shopping mall ,and when you discover you've bought nothing and go to take it back they've closed up shop and moved on. No place to return , don't go there. Period.
In summary , we have some useless trite advice with maybe one good notion burried among the crap. No advice at all to stop using the Internet Explorer which would solve most problems right off the top (I'm writing this article on fire fox , by the way) A certain amount of FUD (Fear , Uncertainty, Doubt) about other operating systems being no better, and some careful cheering on of the security product industry scam and online shopping , more to blame the user for anything that goes wrong than anything else.
This isn't really an online security column. It's a piece of microsoft FUD.
Boycott ad-blocking Firefox, urges furious web designer
Article
A website designer is calling for a boycott of Firefox in opposition to its ad-blocking extension. Danny Carlton is calling on website owners who rely on advertising to insert a script that prevents Mozilla's web browser from displaying their pages.
unfortunately , the only ads I ever see are for those happy faces or screen savers. Each and everyone of which demands that you download a trojen that infects your computer and turns not only your Internet Explorer surfing experience into a nightmare, but typically renders the whole computer a festering virus laden mess in fairly short order.
Let me count the number of times I've had to clean my brothers computer because he saw a cool screen saver he wanted ...
The problem, according to Carlton, is the Ad Block Plus extension, a plug-in that lets Firefox users block advertising and other unwanted content when they view web pages. The extension doesn't allow website owners to prevent it from blocking ads. The result is that "hard working people are being robbed of their time and effort," according to Carlton.
The problem is your ads are mostly virus laden executables. What ever happened to a few flash animations and a picture here and there ? Now it's just infect infect infect ....
Since Ad Block Plus cannot be blocked in isolation, the only option as far as Carlton is concerned is to block the browser. "Software that blocks all advertisement is an infringement of advertisers rights...
You can still insert pictures and flash animations.
"Numerous websites exist in order to provide quality content in exchange for displaying ads. Accessing the content while blocking the ads, therefore, would be no less than stealing."
Numerous websites exist to brutally ignore the surfers right to his own computer and turn it into a spam and virus infected nightmare. You're in the position of demanding no one have any locks on your door because you want to run a service to deliver milk and put it in their refridgerator even if they're not home. That is such a massive security violation I can't begin to describe it , and demanding we run your executables is pretty much on the same level.
...therefore blocking Firefox seems to have only minimal financial drawbacks, whereas ending resource theft has tremendous financial rewards for honest, hard-working website owners and developers," he claims.
The usual I want the profits and you pick up the pieces after wards I dont' care what kind of mess I make of your personal private equipment.
The only resource thief here is you , you bozo.
Go back to static pictures and flash animations and stop infecting everyone and the dog with your virus BS.

Police officer shot, 2 others injured as riot erupts in Montreal
The violence began after a Sunday afternoon protest at Henri Bourassa Park, the site of Saturday's police shooting, where two other young men were also wounded as two police officers attempted to make an arrest.
Hey , I just saw that on the news. Some ditzy female cop shot and killed an unarmed kid. Why do they call him an adult , and merely say they wounded him ? That kid got gunned down in cold blood.
One man died of his wounds in hospital. Two other young men, age 18 and 20, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are reported to be in stable condition.
Well...at least they admitted the kid died. Hadn't known they'd beat the tar out of two others.
Two police officers were injured, including a female officer shot in the leg, after rioters set several fires and clashed with police in the streets of Montreal North late Sunday, Montreal municipal police spokesman Ian Lafrenière said.
wow. You gunned down an unarmed kid and beat the tar out of two others and you think they might not be upset ?
"People were apprehended with guns … so we're talking about criminalized people," Lafrenière said.
Thats real good propaganda here. They're all criminal scum ! we should be allowed to gun down these kids in cold blood ! You should thank us for doing this !
Ummm... the one you shot down and killed was unarmed.
Maybe we should go the route of the english bobby and take away the police guns entirely ? You're not supposed to be gunning down the population you're paid to protect , after all.

Keybumping
http://www.medeco.com/about/keybumping/keybumpvideo.html
The above link is a link to Medeco corporation , which makes lovely high security locks and explains the evils of keybumping , which they happily demonstrate is a way by which cheap low security locks can be openned with just a fixed key and a hammer or wrench in less than 10 seconds.
Isn't that sweet ? You should buy their locks and not anyone elses, really !
And this is a you tube video of a charming 11 year old girl who's only in the 6th grade playing with a high security Kwikset unpickable lock.
She picked it in less than 10 seconds.
Oh , and here she is on one of those unpickable Medeco locks as well.
Isn't she so cute ?
Doesn't it all make you want to just run out and get a big nasty ugly dog immediatly ?

A little mortgage sanity
Mortgages get more expensive - again
"[These actions] have raised the costs of mortgage credit and reduced its availability," said Mark Zandi, chief economist for Moody's Economy.com. "Policy makers had been hoping they would move forward to provide more credit and now they're just hoping they don't pull back."
Actually , we were kind of hoping they'd make even more stupid and ridiculous mortgages and generally give money away free like they've been doing before, it's kind of disapointing tha they're not going to keep doing that.
Fannie will also eliminate buying Alt-A loans by the end of 2008. Alt-A loans, a category between prime and subprime, accounted for about 11% of the company's loans during the last years of the boom. They have been used mostly by people who couldn't or wouldn't document their incomes, their assets or both. These buyers will find it harder to obtain financing once Fannie stops buying the loans.
You mean I can't just walk in and buy a $350 000 house and have you just take my word I'm good for it ? That is sooooooooo shocking ! They can't do that !
The additional fees imposed by Fannie will hit newcomers particularly hard, according to Yun. First-time buyers are usually most on the margins and struggling to afford a home purchase. The added fees will be passed on to borrowers and could mean quarter-point increases in interest rates.
This is insane ! you're denying us access to our best customers ! the rubes who don't realize all of our dirty tricks and how we plan on taking them to the cleaners for every red cent they have ! Who else is going to pay $350 000 for a house that's really only worth 50$ 000 when all is said and done ?
Reducing the number of first-time buyers can have a domino effect on the market. Existing homeowners looking to trade up to bigger, more expensive homes may postpone doing so because they can't sell their present home.
And then those rubes that didn't let us take them for every penny the first time round will sit tight and refuse to let us try it again ! How can you expect us vultures to make a living like this ?
Fannie and Freddie, as private companies created and sponsored by the government, have to foster home ownership while satisfying their shareholders. They have to maintain profitability or risk triggering a government rescue.
You mean like you just did ?
"They were created to provide liquidity in times of crisis," said Yun. "If they don't do that, what's the point of having Fannie and Freddie in the first place?"
Near as I can figure their primary purpose is to assist in moving cash from the government coffers to the banks you are now bailing out since you just underwrote loans to every idiot and the dog with no credit check and no securing of assets at all.
Your primary purpose seems to be to let housing salesmen ridiculously inflate the price of every house in the area to the point where people are being booted out of their rental homes because the land lord is defaulting on the mortgage payments and they're now living in their cars in parking lots despite never missing a rental payment.
And then their goal is to have people write ridiculously sappy articles about how the evil government is not letting them continue to raise the prices and bankrupt everyone and the dog , calling it "bad for the economy" that they refuse to give away free money like they own the printing press on it.
Ooops ! They do own the printing press on it. My mistake.
Capitalism at it's finest.

Spam spam spam ...
Article
Yahoo has struck an agreement with LucidMedia in a move to enhance contextual display advertising on its Right Media Exchange, the companies announced Tuesday.
Oh , you just did a search on used computers ? Suddenly you're surrounded by used computer ad's selling overpriced junk ! In addition to the stuff you were actually searching for. And first before it , and to the left and right of it , in loud flashy ads that make it hard for you to concentrate on the search results.
This is "contextual" advertising.
The arrangement comes as Yahoo and its competitors, which rely heavily on ad revenue, face a challenging environment as the economy softens and advertisers pull back. With the agreement, Yahoo is seeking to grab market share from Google and Microsoft.
We're losing revenue share, Captain !
Increase the obnoxious rating of our ads to maximum ! We must hold on !
But Captain, that will crowd out the actual content and all people will see is ads , nothing else !
It's a risk we'll have to take. You have your orders. Carry them out !
Under the agreement, Yahoo's Right Media will support buyers and sellers that use LucidMedia's contextual advertising engine ClickSense. The arrangement will allow Right Media users to categorize their display advertising inventory, using targeted tags for any of Yahoo's more than 60 vertical channels, such as automotive, finance, and sports.
Sixty vertical channels..wow... you divided everyone into sixty channels and you're customizing all the ads to each individual channel. Cool !
"LucidMedia's ClickSense technology will significantly help increase the prospective yield of a publisher's available inventory and improve an advertiser's ability to contextually target ads to relevant content and categories through the Right Media Exchange," Bill Wise, Right Media general manager, said in a statement.
We gonna spam those suckers like they never been spammed before ! Yes sir ee !

Housing Lenders Fear Bigger Wave of Loan Defaults
Article
Of particular concern are “alt-A” loans, many of which were made to people with good credit scores without proof of their income or assets.
“Subprime was the tip of the iceberg,” said Thomas H. Atteberry, president of First Pacific Advisors, a investment firm in Los Angeles that trades mortgage securities. “Prime will be far bigger in its impact.”
Some guy walked into your office and said "Yeah I have a job and an old house , no problem. Gimme money" and you gave him a 350 000 $ loan without checking on him ? And you did this thousands and thousands of times ?
You deserve to go bankrupt. I have no sympathy for you.
My sympathies lie for the mess you're making of the global economy with this idiocy.
But now, some borrowers could see their payments jump 50 percent or more, and they may not be able to sell their properties for as much as they owe.
Oh yeah , honest ! You wont have that house in two years when the payments jump ! You can just sell it !
Aha. The music has stopped playing , and it's time for everyone to find a safe chair now. Only some clown stole them all and in this game of musical chairs all the chairs are missing.
