Big Business Papers

Article = none , personal opinion

As I sit at the coffee shop drinking my poison I look at the newspaper over the guys shoulder at the next table. It's at the editorial page. Prime Minister Must Keep Word, Conservatives Break Word on Fixed Date Election Promise , and more... and I start to see a pattern.

The Newspapers are big business.

Why is this important you ask ?

The Conservatives get their money from the unions and the average citizen of Canada. The Liberals usually get a check from big business to cover expenses. And this gives them loyalty to those sources. But lately the conservatives snuck in a law to limit election spending and donations, and now big business cannot give the Liberals the huge chunks of money they typically demand to get elected , and so they don't. And we get conservative after conservative government. Because elections are voted on by people , not businesses, and all things being equil people are going to vote for themselves.

Its a sad commentary that you can buy an election with money.

Newspapers are big business, and their doing their darndest to pick on the current government. But the issue is too obscure, no one cares. what does it matter if the date is fixed or not for when you call an election ? The opposition can bring down the house and call an election any time if they thought they could win so it's still not fixed anyways.

The saddest commentary of all is that our so called neutril newspapers, our defenders of truth , are not so neutril after all. They have a vested interest in who wins and are fighting for it.

Call me a dreamer. But just once I'd like to see things go as planned, and not see corruption ringing through out the land as everyone grabs what they can and tells you THE HECK with everyone else.

(Edit : The new laws prohibit unions and businesses from making political donations. Only private individuals, no one else , may contribute to a political party. Found that out later after showing this article to a friend.)
