The Garbage Men

When I was young, they did a survey on the news. They asked people what they thought was going to happen to the economy in 10 years.

They asked some Leading Economists, who said it would do great !

They asked some politicians , who said it would do great !

They asked some Business Leaders , who said it would do great !

They asked a few garbage men , who said it would go right down the tubes.

Ten years later, the economy went right down the tubes.

This seems to be a repeating pattern. Whereby the "experts" give one opinion , and the regular ignorant unwashed masses give another , and it turns out the experts are usually wrong.

I have a theory about this. That theory is that those in power, the politicians , don't care about the future. They only care about the next four or so years and the rest of the future can go to the devil (this explains the atlantic accord, which makes all sorts of ridiculous promises THEY WON'T HAVE TO KEEP because they'll be out of power by the time it comes due , it will be someone elses problem ...) So they go shopping for experts who will say only what they want them to say. they're not looking for the truth , they're looking for propaganda to support their position. Lets be blunt here , they're looking for professional liars.

The garbage man has no such considerations , and is at least trying to tell the truth. And once in a while , he gets it right. Where as the professional liars are never right.

The most recent incident of this truth , of what I call The Garbage Men , is all those posters who said how horrible the Do Not Call List was (I was one of them , but I was hardly unique , there were thousands and thousands of us) and we were ignored. And now it's a disaster.

Long live The Garbage Men. At least we're trying. They're not.
