RCMP bracing for more border crossers amid community concerns
Emerson resident Tim Hoffman says he does not pay much attention to "the commotion" of asylum seekers crossing the border into his town.
But he wants it to stop.Looking at refugee claimants making the dangerous journey, through snow drifts and frigid temperatures, Hoffman says he would actually like to see stricter vetting of the potential refugees — perhaps in the same vein of U.S. President Donald Trump's measures on refugees and immigration south of the border.

"America is a land of easy access to guns.
First immigrant to cross the border and shoot someone , that border is going to slam shut, guarenteed.
First immigrant to be caught smuggling guns or drugs, same thing.
Temporary phenomenon at best."
I wouldn't be so sure about that. Canada is far more Liberal and tolerant of illegals than the USA and yet even in the USA there is a HUGE outcry against closing the borders, even though illegal aliens kill and rob people right and left here. Trump's statements about illegals have been distorted now so that most people believe he is against immigration even when it is legal. Most of the whole anti-Trump movement is based on his plans to tighten the borders.
Even if an illegal alien crossed into Canada armed with a fully automatic M4 carbine and shot dozens of people dead in downtown Toronto or Ottawa, you can bet that at the very first peep of "Let's close the borders" there would be gigantic outraged protest marches organized by Social Justice Warriors, and Liberal pundits would be on all the news outlets calling the request a Nazi initiative. Justin Trudeau would give a televised address stating that the shooter was one mentally ill individual and that it is un-Canadian and immoral to tar all undocumented immigrants with the same brush and that Canada would continue to welcome them with open arms.
There was a protest against the muslim mosque in montreal where that shooting happened, demanding all muslims be kicked out of canada.
I'm not sure Canada is all that welcoming of immigrants.
Not saying they're right or wrong , just saying there seems to be mixed opinions.
