Ontario judge orders website to reveal identity data on anonymous posters

Article

"In my view, the defendants are under an obligation to disclose all documents in their power and control," Justice Stanley Kershman said in a ruling delivered Monday to defendants Connie Wilkins-Fournier and Mark Fournier of Kingston, Ont., who run the website Free Dominion.

Kershman also ordered the couple to pay $5,000 in costs to the plaintiff in the case, Ottawa human rights lawyer Richard Warman, described by Kershman as an "anti-hate speech advocate."

So not only are they forced to give up any documents, they're fined five thousand bucks on top of it as well.

Dunno what the issue was about , (www.freedominion.com is a general purpose website I saw by looking it up, some alliance party stuff on it) but it's good to know that if anyone has any records of any kind about you they can be forced to give it up. And then penalized as well.

So ..did you buy anything online recently ? Did you use your credit card for something you'd prefer your wife not to know about ? Are you being sued by anyone for anythign and their lawyer is looking for fodder ? Are you going through a nasty divorce ? did you join a political party and your enemies want to smear your name ? Are you trying to get elected to public office ?

If you said yes to any of these , yer basically toast. Freedom of speech does not apply to the internet. You Shall be Crucified for openning your mouth. Plain and Simple.

Which will have the interesting effect of no one openning their mouths anymore. Did you want to run a survey ? Did you want your employee's *HONEST* opinion , and not some local I love this job pap just before they quit and leave you wondering why, did you want all exit interviews declared null and void with a simple "This job is boring , found another" excuse because they're afraid to say anything ?

This is the world you are building. And it's going to be terribly unpredictable.

RCMP acknowledges public trust eroded after Dziekanski incident

Article

"The public trust is at a level we would rather not see," RCMP Cpl. Peter Thiessen told reporters during a lunch break at Monday's inquiry, which heard testimony from RCMP Cpl. Monty Robinson, the senior commanding officer in the early morning hours of Oct. 14, 2007, when Dziekanski was Tasered five times and died minutes later.

We think you're a pack of hoodlums who have found a loop hole in the legal system to let you "legally" murder people. And you're exploiting it to the max. Does that about cover what public opinion is right now ?

"We're going to work extremely hard to get it back to a level we would like to see," Thiessen said.

We're doing diddly squat about it but give you the finger. Those officers who were responsible for it all are not even getting a slap on the wrist , and we're demanding every officer in the country carry a taser.

This is what you're working extremely hard to do.

A reporter raised the fact that all four officers involved in the fatal in-custody death have admitted their police statements were wrong in describing the events that led to Dziekanski's death.

"Why have these officers not been fired?" a reporter asked.

They're not going to be fired, or even punished, even though they were caught red handed lying about a murder investigation , and trying to cover it up (the cell phone video we all see had to be gotten back from the cops via a lawyer after it was confiscaated).

This is the "give the public the finger and keep on killing" part. Not that the cops screwed up , but that you're blatently protecting them and encouraging them to do it again. Thats the part where the whole system can now justifiably be called legal murder. You're defending the murderers and egging them on to do more and more, you're not punishing them.

He also said Robinson has offered to meet privately with Dziekanski's mother, Zofia Cisowski, who is attending the inquiry and said loudly as Robinson walked by, "Nice to meet you."

We would like to meet privately with the victems mother so that we can assure her that nothing will change we will still kill people with tasers in the future. We like giving people the finger and she should be no exception.

All dark humor aside, what exactly do you plan on telling Zofia Dziekanski ? We're terribly sorry your son is dead. No , the killers will not be brought to justice. No they won't even get a slap on the wrist , they were just following policy we're allowed to do this in Canada , it's perfectly legal. Is that about what you plan on telling her ? Just walk away buddy, and leave her be. She doesn't need to hear that.

Why am I ticked ?

Less than a week after they tasered that guy to death they tasered an old man in his hospital bed. He didn't even have the strength to get out of bed they had to go to his retirement home and while he still lay in his bed taser him.

These people are just out of control. I can't even call them police anymore. They are the classical thugs with badges.

Internet Explorer 8

Article = none , personal experience

Downloaded IE8 and took it for a spin.

Lets start by looking over the license.

Features in the software can retrieve related content from Microsoft and provide it to you. To provide the content, these features send to Microsoft the type of operating system, name and version of the software you are using, type of browser and language code of the device where you installed the software. Examples of these features are clip art, templates, online training, online assistance and Appshelp. You may choose not to use these web content features.

examples = a few , we might do it for anything we're spying on you.

We may use the computer information, and CEIP information, to improve our software and services. We may also share it with others, such as hardware and software vendors. They may use the information to improve how their products run with Microsoft software.

We reserve the right to give that information away to everyone and the
dog and you get no choice in the matter.

And it wants to install a thousand updates that will likely break
your system if you do so. On top of the IE. (I said no)

reboot computer

reset home page , tried to turn on some kind of list of suggested sites,
I said no (advertising)

Search bar is msn live search only , no other choices.
AOL ad , stuck right in the tool bar. One click to register.

I went to my favorites and deleted the AOL entry ...no dice , aol is still there.

The url bar now has ads instead of aproximate addresses when you type a url
"Download windows search to Improve history and search results"

"Allow previously unused active-x..." yadda yadda ...the old ones still
run anyways even when you hit disable
four other options that have to be hit to disable active-x , they're
automatically enabled even though I disabled them before.

Go to gmail.

"Gmail requires ActiveX controls to be enabled

Your browser seems to be Internet Explorer, and ActiveX seems to be disabled. Gmail's standard view requires ActiveX to be enabled in order to operate."

- and now gmail is in on the act

The new IE8 seems pretty fast , now that it's been installed on my nice virus free machine that was kept virus free because I don't use IE of any kind. But it punishes you , still , for turning off active x, which is the main path by which virii get to your machine (thus why I'm on firefox).

And they've got some websites (starting with google) in cahoots with them on this.

And they're loaded up with advertising that is at the very least difficult to turn off. I couldn't find a way to get rid of it.

And they want you to only use the microsoft search engine and nothing else , there are no other choices.

And they're sneaking a little closer in with the collecting of private information that isn't theirs to collect but they're going to grab it anyways. Always chiselling away , these companies. Always making you sign or agree to things so you can use their product that are really a bad idea.

I went back to firefox. This thing is still a virus trap and they have no intention of changing it. Active-X is still active by default , turned back on again even if you turn it off , and anyone who uses this browser without technical knowledge is caught between letting the virii in so you can go to certain websites , or doing without them.

Security is Job Last again , at Microsoft , though they bray loud and long like a mule with a sick stomach the exact opposite.

Oh yes ! The latest wrinkle ! This isn't your software, you're just borrowing it for a bit and they reserve the right to take it back at any time.

So don't get used to it or dependant on it, they could take a hissy fit and decide that since you're not installing the usual updates and being properly vender locked to microsoft products only they just might take it away from you with no warning at all.

Or if you all work at google , and they decide they hate you ... you get the picture.

Stun gun shock to head may cause seizures, doctors warn

Article

A police officer who was mistakenly hit in the head by a stun gun suffered seizures, Canadian doctors reported on Monday.

The officer was in his 30s and previously in good health. He was hit by a Taser shot meant for a suspect involved in a police chase, Dr. Richard Wennberg and co-authors from Toronto Western Hospital and the University of Toronto reported in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

The Irony of it all.

"Our report shows that a Taser shot to the head may result in brain-specific complications. It also suggests that seizure should be added to the list of Taser-related adverse events."
.
.
.
The stun gun was fired once, sending two barbed darts into the officer's upper back and back of the head, according to police records.
.
.
.
After the officer was hit, he collapsed, lost consciousness and was not breathing, the doctors reported.

His eyes rolled upward, he was foaming at the mouth and his arms and legs jerked for about one minute. He was confused for several minutes.
.
.
.
A neurological assessment of the patient diagnosed mild traumatic brain injury and post-concussion syndrome related to the head impact from the Taser shot or falling to the ground during the seizure.

The patient has not had any more seizures since the incident more than one year ago.

He continues to have symptoms of anxiety, difficulties concentrating, irritability, dizziness and persistent headaches, the researchers said in describing his treatment.

Honest it's just a star trek stun gun ! Nothing bad happens when you hit the wrong guy ! What could possibly go wrong ?

Yeah right. Permanent brain damage from this thing. I'd rather get shot in the leg with a bullet than tasered, thanks just the same. I'm sure the cop feels the same way.

Wait for Taser Corp to sue the doctors for daring to defame their precious toy and hurting their bottom line.

Facebook user must open up about private content

Article

An Ontario judge has ordered a man who is suing someone over injuries sustained in an auto accident to answer questions about his private Facebook content.
.
.
.
Roman's lawyers want to cross-examine Leduc about what he is saying to friends in the area of his Facebook profile that is off-limits to the public.
.
.
.
"With respect, I do not regard the defendant's request as a fishing expedition. Mr. Leduc exercised control over a social networking and information site to which he allowed designated "friends" access. It is reasonable to infer that his social networking site likely contains some content relevant to the issue of how Mr. Leduc has been able to lead his life since the accident."

Yep.

the information is out there. It's available. Now the law's gonna demand you cough it up. Personal diaries , face book accounts that are closed to the public and only meant for a few friends to see, whats next ? Every sms message you ever sent ? Every chat program you ever got on ?

Google chrome records everything you do , for advertising purposes, so they can spam you to death. They gonna demand to see that too ? How about your history of everywhere you went on the internet ? The internet providers already keep such records even if you don't give permission , so they can figure out which sites are most popular.

We're being watched. And it's being done for hostile reasons. It's being done to get at our wallet , it's being done to pitch ads at us, it's being done to figure out which advertising techniques are more effective than others so they can make us pay through the nose for trash not fit to feed to your dog. it's even being done to convince you to vote for one political party over an other (The pro-business liberals have a strangle hold of popularity with the pro-business news stations and news sites. Needless to say , the pro-people "Businesses can go whistle for their more ridiculous demands" Conservatives tend to get locked out of such things)

And when someone is watching you with hostile intentions , what do you do ?

Bell Volunteers To Self Destruct

Bell threatens to withhold network upgrades

Bell may refuse to upgrade to next-generation networks if the Canadian government does not concede to demands, a statement from the company proposes. The country's telecommunications regulator, the CRTC, recently issued a ruling that would require the company to open up its next-generation networks to competitors. Bell is only one of two national Internet service providers in Canada however, and would likely gain no more than diminished profits if forced to cope with competition.

We demand that you not force us to compete with anyone , or we won't upgrade our network.

Ok then , so ... not upgrading your network to stay competative means everyone flocks to someone else. Thus you go belly up. And since Bell is a scum bag rip off company in the first place , I shed no tears on this matter.

Still waiting to hear the bad news. It sounds like they're making some kind of threat ... but I don't see them doing anything I don't want them to do. Maybe if they threatenned to stay in business people might be worried ?

Linux Xfce : The Everyman Choice ....Not !

Article = None , personal experience

Ok , so for boxing day I bought an Acer AspireOne netbook , which is kind of like a lap top only smaller. No CD rom or DVD drive. And the hard drive is all flash memory, no heads to crash if you drop it (a good thing actually , though maybe 8 gigabytes is a little low on space)

The thing is running Linux !

Hurray ! Hello Firefox goodbye virii and trojens and other microsoft annoyances.

The thing has this plicking annoying newbie interface , huge icons , a few programs, everything locked down , I hate it. Even my ubuntu linux machine in the living room gives me a nice clean desktop and a menu to choose programs from , and icons on the desk top if I like. And the ability to put up a nice picture .

XFCE , it turns out (I have no idea what that stands for) is a "light" version of linux , designed to run on very few resources so you can use it on cheap , slow , low memory machines and it will run acceptably.

so I find this Linux Article that will let me hack the thing put on a pretty desk top , and get rid of the annoying newbie interface. Why not ?

Alt-F2 brings up the run program window. Aha ! They'd hidden that command from me , it wasn't anywhere on the newbie interface. (equivilant of the run command in windows)
So I bring it up and I type in xfce-setting-show , as directed, and I get this nifty window with all sorts of forbidden options that Acer doesn't want newbies to have access to.

Thats fine. Get a menu going, change the apearance, it's all good.

Next step is to get rid of the gui (graphical user interface, in this case the annoying newbie one)

so I open the terminal application , as directed, and I type in Su , and it askes me for my password.

Doesn't accept it.

Hmm..I never did set a password, now that I think about it. This was a floor demo model, and I remember calling the store and they didn't know the password either.

Oops, I'm toast. Well... what if I did a total reinstall of the operating system ? I got the recovery disk and everything in the box. And it's not like I did anythign but watch youtube.com video's for the last three months on it.

Hmm..put the cd in to my windows machine, because as I said the aspire one doesn't have a drive, boot from the cd (had to play with bios) and it boots into a tiny version of linux , and lets me reformat a usb stick I have on my keychain (1 gig minimum , but I don't think they sell them that small anymore) to become a "boot disk" , ok..boot stick maybe.

Stick it in the aspire and press f2 on boot up , get it to change priorities to try and boot from a usb stick first , then the regular drive later (that way I don't have to keep playing , I can just stick the stick in when I want to reformat and take it out when I want to use it)

Ah ...at last I get to choose my password. Been looking for that for three months.

Mousepad, edit a config file to get rid of the newbie interface. Looks wonderful ! But half the settings don't work. Still can't change the background wall paper.

((edit : "mousepad /etc/xdg/xfce4-session/xfce-session.rc " is the command

comment out ... (by putting # as the first charactar in the line)
Client0_command=xfdesktopnew

and put in ...
Client0_command=xfdesktop-xfce

So that it reads ...

#Client0_command=xfdesktopnew
Client0_command=xfdesktop-xfce

and you can switch back and forth by simply moving the comment symbol
from one line to the other

))

Put the newbie interface back , and the settings work again. Dang newbie interface is running programs in the background that make all your settings controls work. And probably a bunch of other things too.

Hmm..back to the configuration file ..what if I do this , or this , or this ?

System hung. Boots, but no icons to click on , no menu to issue controls. Put the memory stick back in , reformat the whole thing again ...

Did they really claim Linux passed the grandma test ? Maybe the newbie interface did. It worked great until I started fiddling with it.

*sigh* reloaded the whole os again ...

I'll let you know how this turns out ... when I finish fiddling...

EDIT

Aha ! (after a second reformat ...don't update the software by the way , thats a waste of time and just improves the vender lock and makes it harder to by pass their annoying junk) In the desk top manager , set the desktop to show no icons, and reboot, and the newbie interface goes away. But since it's still running in the background, all your menu options and control panels still work.

You wind up with a blank screen though instead of your wall paper. Go to settings > desktop and "tile" the wall paper , and it materializes ! Set it back to stretch , and you have your normal wall paper. Annoying , since you have to do it every time you reboot ... have to work on that ...

North Korea holds rubber stamp elections

Article

The new parliament, known as the Supreme People's Assembly, can revise the constitution, approve the budget and make appointments to top official positions, including the National Defence Commission.

But as told the parliament has no substantive powers.

Can someone tell me what the point of a rubber stamp election is ?

You're not fooling the outside world, cause we can see there's no way for those in power to lose the election.

And you're not fooling you're own people , because they're all being lined up at gun point and being told who to vote for so they personally experience the persecution no matter what bogus news articles you put up on the local state controlled media.

Is it just a feel good exercise for a mad dictator with no real rhyme or reason to it or what ?

What time is it

Article = none , personal experiance

Ok, so do we lose an hour tonight or tommorow night or last night ? So I go to google and I type in "What Time Is It ?"

and it gives me the current time for my time zone and for my city. It actually says Ottawa , eastern standard time , on it. Not only as the first result , but it's actually in a different font (print type) and set up high and seperate from the rest.

Umm.... google covers all of north america. How do you know I'm in Ottawa ?
Well... it got my ip address, but it would have to go through my provider to tell where that is exactly , my provider does several cities after all.

It couldn't be by the tool bar or anything like that , I refuse to install that google tool bar , and I'm on firefox.

These corporations are all in league with each other. You don't have any private information anymore. People call my wife asking her to switch long distance carriers and actually name what carrier she has now (how did you know that , how did you get this number AND her name ?) People call me all the time on my wifes phone (I never answer), lately spammers been calling my cell phone from that bogus 416-000-xxxx which I know is a bogus exchange (they're cloaking where they're really calling from) it's all for sale to make a fast buck.

Until it gets stolen. then they take out a mortgage or buy a car in your name and stick you with the bills and the ruined credit rating. And the banks can't find them, so like that guy out in alberta they demanded he pay up even though he was the victem. Cause the banks don't want to lose money. (Personally I think Alberta is a third world country with stunts like that but thats just me).

Big business is the worst dictatorship out there. Think about it. where do you work ? See all those policies you have to enforce that you personally totally disagree with ? Now picture yourself as the victem of them. Think about your companies whole "It's just a numbers game ,we don't care if a few slip between the cracks we're just a business here to make money" attitude, and now see them slipping into the role of a government, slowly , one piece at a time.

Big Three Sue , then Beg

California And Detroit Go To War Over Gas Mileage

For more than three decades Detroit's Big Three and their allies have successfully blocked or limited changes to the nation's fuel economy rules. However, with General Motors and Chrysler LLC facing bankruptcy, the carmakers are making what could be one last stand, and this one they may well lose.

Only in America do the businesses *SUE* the government when they try and do something.

Environmentalists are insisting that one of the conditions of continuing federal assistance to the automakers is that they withdraw their support for the federal lawsuit filed by the Alliance for Automobile Manufactures in California, which up until now has been supported by both domestic and foreign carmakers.

So far the automakers haven't killed the lawsuit.

I love this country. The Air in Los Angeles is unbreathable on a hot day there's so much smog it will kill you. And when the government tries to regulate car emmissions to fix that problem , the Big Three sue them to put a halt to it.

Oh no , that would put a dent in our car sells, you can't do that. Let those people die !

"Our analysis suggests that allowing California and other states to regulate CO2 emissions, and thus fuel economy, will further damage companies that are struggling, like GM, Ford and Chrysler, and much of their supply base, and potentially destabilize relatively healthy companies like Toyota and Nissan."

Our highly biased research that says exactly whatever the heck we feel like making it say , suggests that doing anything to hurt our sales is a bad thing.

This is Capitalism at it's Finest ???

Is it too late to rethink the whole communism thing ?

We think you should die, and we're going to protest that you're still alive

Anti-Israel protesters clash with Swedish police outside tennis match

Dozens of anti-Israel activists clashed with police Saturday as they tried to storm a closed arena in Sweden where the home country and Israel were playing a Davis Cup tennis match.

The activists hurled rocks and firecrackers at police vans as they tried to break through the barricades set up to keep protesters from the arena. Hundreds of riot police pushed them back using truncheons.

Ah , racism at it's finest. We don't like these people because they're of some particular race or nationality, we think they should die , etc etc. Gotta love the ignorant masses.

Swedish Left Party Leader Lars Ohly told the crowd that the European Union and the rest of the world should "boycott the racist regime in Israel."

The irony of it all. The only one acting in a racist manner here is the protesters, not the Jews. Tempers are running high , and the truth has again deserted the cause. It's almost a standard.

And what is all the fuss about ?

Someone tried to wipe out Israel and that nation actually dared to defend itself. I wonder what these people would say if we started lobbing rockets at random into Palistine ?

If these people want to understand racism, they need to look in the mirror.

Bus beheading trial ends with both sides seeking same verdict

Article

A two-day Winnipeg trial in a case of killing and beheading on a Greyhound bus ended Wednesday with both sides seeking the same verdict — not criminally responsible by reason of mental disorder.
Vincent Li, seen in a courtroom sketch, listens to proceedings during his second-degree murder trial in Winnipeg.Vincent Li, seen in a courtroom sketch, listens to proceedings during his second-degree murder trial in Winnipeg. (Tom Andrich/Canadian Press)

The judge said he will deliver his verdict at 10 a.m. CT on Thursday.

Psychiatrists for the Crown and the defence agreed during the short trial that Vince Li, 40, was suffering from schizophrenia and did not know what he was doing when he killed 22-year-old Timothy McLean of Winnipeg on a bus in Manitoba last July.

The psychiatrists said Li believed he was acting on orders from God when he attacked McLean, mutilating the young man before decapitating him and eating part of the body.
.
.
.
Both psychiatrists said that Li, although he is very ill, could one day be rehabilitated and returned to society.

First I'd like to comment on the cop who first arrived at the scene of the attack , and upon noticing the victem was already dead and Vince Li was still stabbing him, herded all thirty passengers in front of the bus so they could see in the front window and witness the events still transpiring there in.

It is interesting that at the time the newsies widely condemed him for exposing those people to such trama. Yet at the same time this trial suddenly became an open and shut case with both prosecuter and defence wrapping it all up in lightning fast time.

Bet that cop is getting a lot of congradulations from his police buddies now. *grins*

How fickle fate is , one day your a villian , the next a hero.

Second. I think Vince Li should be locked up and we should throw away the key. Why ? Is it because I don't believe he's guilty ? Is it because I think he was faking mental illness ?

Nope. It's because I'm afraid. I'm terrified this psychopath (literally ! No exageration in this case !) might some day be allowed to walk the streets a free man. And I might be his next victem.

The public has a right to be safe. We have a right to have the mad dogs shot , the wolves who've tasted blood destroyed , whatever you want to call it. Because the truth of the matter is , civilization is a thin layer of habit we learn over a life time. Underneath it all , we are all wild animals, and killing our fellow man is not an act of insanity , it's actually normal operating proceedure for our species of being. Whether he's insane or not is irrelvant. The wolf has tasted blood , and wants more. And must be put down.
