"The public trust is at a level we would rather not see," RCMP Cpl. Peter Thiessen told reporters during a lunch break at Monday's inquiry, which heard testimony from RCMP Cpl. Monty Robinson, the senior commanding officer in the early morning hours of Oct. 14, 2007, when Dziekanski was Tasered five times and died minutes later.
We think you're a pack of hoodlums who have found a loop hole in the legal system to let you "legally" murder people. And you're exploiting it to the max. Does that about cover what public opinion is right now ?
"We're going to work extremely hard to get it back to a level we would like to see," Thiessen said.
We're doing diddly squat about it but give you the finger. Those officers who were responsible for it all are not even getting a slap on the wrist , and we're demanding every officer in the country carry a taser.
This is what you're working extremely hard to do.
A reporter raised the fact that all four officers involved in the fatal in-custody death have admitted their police statements were wrong in describing the events that led to Dziekanski's death.
"Why have these officers not been fired?" a reporter asked.
They're not going to be fired, or even punished, even though they were caught red handed lying about a murder investigation , and trying to cover it up (the cell phone video we all see had to be gotten back from the cops via a lawyer after it was confiscaated).
This is the "give the public the finger and keep on killing" part. Not that the cops screwed up , but that you're blatently protecting them and encouraging them to do it again. Thats the part where the whole system can now justifiably be called legal murder. You're defending the murderers and egging them on to do more and more, you're not punishing them.
He also said Robinson has offered to meet privately with Dziekanski's mother, Zofia Cisowski, who is attending the inquiry and said loudly as Robinson walked by, "Nice to meet you."
We would like to meet privately with the victems mother so that we can assure her that nothing will change we will still kill people with tasers in the future. We like giving people the finger and she should be no exception.
All dark humor aside, what exactly do you plan on telling Zofia Dziekanski ? We're terribly sorry your son is dead. No , the killers will not be brought to justice. No they won't even get a slap on the wrist , they were just following policy we're allowed to do this in Canada , it's perfectly legal. Is that about what you plan on telling her ? Just walk away buddy, and leave her be. She doesn't need to hear that.
Why am I ticked ?
Less than a week after they tasered that guy to death they tasered an old man in his hospital bed. He didn't even have the strength to get out of bed they had to go to his retirement home and while he still lay in his bed taser him.
These people are just out of control. I can't even call them police anymore. They are the classical thugs with badges.

Internet Explorer 8
Article = none , personal experience
Downloaded IE8 and took it for a spin.
Lets start by looking over the license.
Features in the software can retrieve related content from Microsoft and provide it to you. To provide the content, these features send to Microsoft the type of operating system, name and version of the software you are using, type of browser and language code of the device where you installed the software. Examples of these features are clip art, templates, online training, online assistance and Appshelp. You may choose not to use these web content features.
examples = a few , we might do it for anything we're spying on you.
We may use the computer information, and CEIP information, to improve our software and services. We may also share it with others, such as hardware and software vendors. They may use the information to improve how their products run with Microsoft software.
We reserve the right to give that information away to everyone and the
dog and you get no choice in the matter.
And it wants to install a thousand updates that will likely break
your system if you do so. On top of the IE. (I said no)
reboot computer
reset home page , tried to turn on some kind of list of suggested sites,
I said no (advertising)
Search bar is msn live search only , no other choices.
AOL ad , stuck right in the tool bar. One click to register.
I went to my favorites and deleted the AOL entry ...no dice , aol is still there.
The url bar now has ads instead of aproximate addresses when you type a url
"Download windows search to Improve history and search results"
"Allow previously unused active-x..." yadda yadda ...the old ones still
run anyways even when you hit disable
four other options that have to be hit to disable active-x , they're
automatically enabled even though I disabled them before.
Go to gmail.
"Gmail requires ActiveX controls to be enabled
Your browser seems to be Internet Explorer, and ActiveX seems to be disabled. Gmail's standard view requires ActiveX to be enabled in order to operate."
- and now gmail is in on the act
The new IE8 seems pretty fast , now that it's been installed on my nice virus free machine that was kept virus free because I don't use IE of any kind. But it punishes you , still , for turning off active x, which is the main path by which virii get to your machine (thus why I'm on firefox).
And they've got some websites (starting with google) in cahoots with them on this.
And they're loaded up with advertising that is at the very least difficult to turn off. I couldn't find a way to get rid of it.
And they want you to only use the microsoft search engine and nothing else , there are no other choices.
And they're sneaking a little closer in with the collecting of private information that isn't theirs to collect but they're going to grab it anyways. Always chiselling away , these companies. Always making you sign or agree to things so you can use their product that are really a bad idea.
I went back to firefox. This thing is still a virus trap and they have no intention of changing it. Active-X is still active by default , turned back on again even if you turn it off , and anyone who uses this browser without technical knowledge is caught between letting the virii in so you can go to certain websites , or doing without them.
Security is Job Last again , at Microsoft , though they bray loud and long like a mule with a sick stomach the exact opposite.
Oh yes ! The latest wrinkle ! This isn't your software, you're just borrowing it for a bit and they reserve the right to take it back at any time.
So don't get used to it or dependant on it, they could take a hissy fit and decide that since you're not installing the usual updates and being properly vender locked to microsoft products only they just might take it away from you with no warning at all.
Or if you all work at google , and they decide they hate you ... you get the picture.

Stun gun shock to head may cause seizures, doctors warn
Article
A police officer who was mistakenly hit in the head by a stun gun suffered seizures, Canadian doctors reported on Monday.
The officer was in his 30s and previously in good health. He was hit by a Taser shot meant for a suspect involved in a police chase, Dr. Richard Wennberg and co-authors from Toronto Western Hospital and the University of Toronto reported in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.
The Irony of it all.
"Our report shows that a Taser shot to the head may result in brain-specific complications. It also suggests that seizure should be added to the list of Taser-related adverse events."
.
.
.
The stun gun was fired once, sending two barbed darts into the officer's upper back and back of the head, according to police records.
.
.
.
After the officer was hit, he collapsed, lost consciousness and was not breathing, the doctors reported.
His eyes rolled upward, he was foaming at the mouth and his arms and legs jerked for about one minute. He was confused for several minutes.
.
.
.
A neurological assessment of the patient diagnosed mild traumatic brain injury and post-concussion syndrome related to the head impact from the Taser shot or falling to the ground during the seizure.
The patient has not had any more seizures since the incident more than one year ago.
He continues to have symptoms of anxiety, difficulties concentrating, irritability, dizziness and persistent headaches, the researchers said in describing his treatment.
Honest it's just a star trek stun gun ! Nothing bad happens when you hit the wrong guy ! What could possibly go wrong ?
Yeah right. Permanent brain damage from this thing. I'd rather get shot in the leg with a bullet than tasered, thanks just the same. I'm sure the cop feels the same way.
Wait for Taser Corp to sue the doctors for daring to defame their precious toy and hurting their bottom line.

Facebook user must open up about private content
Article
An Ontario judge has ordered a man who is suing someone over injuries sustained in an auto accident to answer questions about his private Facebook content.
.
.
.
Roman's lawyers want to cross-examine Leduc about what he is saying to friends in the area of his Facebook profile that is off-limits to the public.
.
.
.
"With respect, I do not regard the defendant's request as a fishing expedition. Mr. Leduc exercised control over a social networking and information site to which he allowed designated "friends" access. It is reasonable to infer that his social networking site likely contains some content relevant to the issue of how Mr. Leduc has been able to lead his life since the accident."
Yep.
the information is out there. It's available. Now the law's gonna demand you cough it up. Personal diaries , face book accounts that are closed to the public and only meant for a few friends to see, whats next ? Every sms message you ever sent ? Every chat program you ever got on ?
Google chrome records everything you do , for advertising purposes, so they can spam you to death. They gonna demand to see that too ? How about your history of everywhere you went on the internet ? The internet providers already keep such records even if you don't give permission , so they can figure out which sites are most popular.
We're being watched. And it's being done for hostile reasons. It's being done to get at our wallet , it's being done to pitch ads at us, it's being done to figure out which advertising techniques are more effective than others so they can make us pay through the nose for trash not fit to feed to your dog. it's even being done to convince you to vote for one political party over an other (The pro-business liberals have a strangle hold of popularity with the pro-business news stations and news sites. Needless to say , the pro-people "Businesses can go whistle for their more ridiculous demands" Conservatives tend to get locked out of such things)
And when someone is watching you with hostile intentions , what do you do ?

Bell Volunteers To Self Destruct
Bell threatens to withhold network upgrades
Bell may refuse to upgrade to next-generation networks if the Canadian government does not concede to demands, a statement from the company proposes. The country's telecommunications regulator, the CRTC, recently issued a ruling that would require the company to open up its next-generation networks to competitors. Bell is only one of two national Internet service providers in Canada however, and would likely gain no more than diminished profits if forced to cope with competition.
We demand that you not force us to compete with anyone , or we won't upgrade our network.
Ok then , so ... not upgrading your network to stay competative means everyone flocks to someone else. Thus you go belly up. And since Bell is a scum bag rip off company in the first place , I shed no tears on this matter.
Still waiting to hear the bad news. It sounds like they're making some kind of threat ... but I don't see them doing anything I don't want them to do. Maybe if they threatenned to stay in business people might be worried ?

Linux Xfce : The Everyman Choice ....Not !
Article = None , personal experience
Ok , so for boxing day I bought an Acer AspireOne netbook , which is kind of like a lap top only smaller. No CD rom or DVD drive. And the hard drive is all flash memory, no heads to crash if you drop it (a good thing actually , though maybe 8 gigabytes is a little low on space)
The thing is running Linux !
Hurray ! Hello Firefox goodbye virii and trojens and other microsoft annoyances.
The thing has this plicking annoying newbie interface , huge icons , a few programs, everything locked down , I hate it. Even my ubuntu linux machine in the living room gives me a nice clean desktop and a menu to choose programs from , and icons on the desk top if I like. And the ability to put up a nice picture .
XFCE , it turns out (I have no idea what that stands for) is a "light" version of linux , designed to run on very few resources so you can use it on cheap , slow , low memory machines and it will run acceptably.
so I find this Linux Article that will let me hack the thing put on a pretty desk top , and get rid of the annoying newbie interface. Why not ?
Alt-F2 brings up the run program window. Aha ! They'd hidden that command from me , it wasn't anywhere on the newbie interface. (equivilant of the run command in windows)
So I bring it up and I type in xfce-setting-show , as directed, and I get this nifty window with all sorts of forbidden options that Acer doesn't want newbies to have access to.
Thats fine. Get a menu going, change the apearance, it's all good.
Next step is to get rid of the gui (graphical user interface, in this case the annoying newbie one)
so I open the terminal application , as directed, and I type in Su , and it askes me for my password.
Doesn't accept it.
Hmm..I never did set a password, now that I think about it. This was a floor demo model, and I remember calling the store and they didn't know the password either.
Oops, I'm toast. Well... what if I did a total reinstall of the operating system ? I got the recovery disk and everything in the box. And it's not like I did anythign but watch youtube.com video's for the last three months on it.
Hmm..put the cd in to my windows machine, because as I said the aspire one doesn't have a drive, boot from the cd (had to play with bios) and it boots into a tiny version of linux , and lets me reformat a usb stick I have on my keychain (1 gig minimum , but I don't think they sell them that small anymore) to become a "boot disk" , ok..boot stick maybe.
Stick it in the aspire and press f2 on boot up , get it to change priorities to try and boot from a usb stick first , then the regular drive later (that way I don't have to keep playing , I can just stick the stick in when I want to reformat and take it out when I want to use it)
Ah ...at last I get to choose my password. Been looking for that for three months.
Mousepad, edit a config file to get rid of the newbie interface. Looks wonderful ! But half the settings don't work. Still can't change the background wall paper.
((edit : "mousepad /etc/xdg/xfce4-session/xfce-session.rc " is the command
comment out ... (by putting # as the first charactar in the line)
Client0_command=xfdesktopnew
and put in ...
Client0_command=xfdesktop-xfce
So that it reads ...
#Client0_command=xfdesktopnew
Client0_command=xfdesktop-xfce
and you can switch back and forth by simply moving the comment symbol
from one line to the other
))
Put the newbie interface back , and the settings work again. Dang newbie interface is running programs in the background that make all your settings controls work. And probably a bunch of other things too.
Hmm..back to the configuration file ..what if I do this , or this , or this ?
System hung. Boots, but no icons to click on , no menu to issue controls. Put the memory stick back in , reformat the whole thing again ...
Did they really claim Linux passed the grandma test ? Maybe the newbie interface did. It worked great until I started fiddling with it.
*sigh* reloaded the whole os again ...
I'll let you know how this turns out ... when I finish fiddling...
EDIT
Aha ! (after a second reformat ...don't update the software by the way , thats a waste of time and just improves the vender lock and makes it harder to by pass their annoying junk) In the desk top manager , set the desktop to show no icons, and reboot, and the newbie interface goes away. But since it's still running in the background, all your menu options and control panels still work.
You wind up with a blank screen though instead of your wall paper. Go to settings > desktop and "tile" the wall paper , and it materializes ! Set it back to stretch , and you have your normal wall paper. Annoying , since you have to do it every time you reboot ... have to work on that ...

North Korea holds rubber stamp elections
Article
The new parliament, known as the Supreme People's Assembly, can revise the constitution, approve the budget and make appointments to top official positions, including the National Defence Commission.
But as told the parliament has no substantive powers.
Can someone tell me what the point of a rubber stamp election is ?
You're not fooling the outside world, cause we can see there's no way for those in power to lose the election.
And you're not fooling you're own people , because they're all being lined up at gun point and being told who to vote for so they personally experience the persecution no matter what bogus news articles you put up on the local state controlled media.
Is it just a feel good exercise for a mad dictator with no real rhyme or reason to it or what ?

What time is it
Article = none , personal experiance
Ok, so do we lose an hour tonight or tommorow night or last night ? So I go to google and I type in "What Time Is It ?"
and it gives me the current time for my time zone and for my city. It actually says Ottawa , eastern standard time , on it. Not only as the first result , but it's actually in a different font (print type) and set up high and seperate from the rest.
Umm.... google covers all of north america. How do you know I'm in Ottawa ?
Well... it got my ip address, but it would have to go through my provider to tell where that is exactly , my provider does several cities after all.
It couldn't be by the tool bar or anything like that , I refuse to install that google tool bar , and I'm on firefox.
These corporations are all in league with each other. You don't have any private information anymore. People call my wife asking her to switch long distance carriers and actually name what carrier she has now (how did you know that , how did you get this number AND her name ?) People call me all the time on my wifes phone (I never answer), lately spammers been calling my cell phone from that bogus 416-000-xxxx which I know is a bogus exchange (they're cloaking where they're really calling from) it's all for sale to make a fast buck.
Until it gets stolen. then they take out a mortgage or buy a car in your name and stick you with the bills and the ruined credit rating. And the banks can't find them, so like that guy out in alberta they demanded he pay up even though he was the victem. Cause the banks don't want to lose money. (Personally I think Alberta is a third world country with stunts like that but thats just me).
Big business is the worst dictatorship out there. Think about it. where do you work ? See all those policies you have to enforce that you personally totally disagree with ? Now picture yourself as the victem of them. Think about your companies whole "It's just a numbers game ,we don't care if a few slip between the cracks we're just a business here to make money" attitude, and now see them slipping into the role of a government, slowly , one piece at a time.
California And Detroit Go To War Over Gas Mileage
For more than three decades Detroit's Big Three and their allies have successfully blocked or limited changes to the nation's fuel economy rules. However, with General Motors and Chrysler LLC facing bankruptcy, the carmakers are making what could be one last stand, and this one they may well lose.
Only in America do the businesses *SUE* the government when they try and do something.
Environmentalists are insisting that one of the conditions of continuing federal assistance to the automakers is that they withdraw their support for the federal lawsuit filed by the Alliance for Automobile Manufactures in California, which up until now has been supported by both domestic and foreign carmakers.
So far the automakers haven't killed the lawsuit.
I love this country. The Air in Los Angeles is unbreathable on a hot day there's so much smog it will kill you. And when the government tries to regulate car emmissions to fix that problem , the Big Three sue them to put a halt to it.
Oh no , that would put a dent in our car sells, you can't do that. Let those people die !
"Our analysis suggests that allowing California and other states to regulate CO2 emissions, and thus fuel economy, will further damage companies that are struggling, like GM, Ford and Chrysler, and much of their supply base, and potentially destabilize relatively healthy companies like Toyota and Nissan."
Our highly biased research that says exactly whatever the heck we feel like making it say , suggests that doing anything to hurt our sales is a bad thing.
This is Capitalism at it's Finest ???
Is it too late to rethink the whole communism thing ?

We think you should die, and we're going to protest that you're still alive
Anti-Israel protesters clash with Swedish police outside tennis match
Dozens of anti-Israel activists clashed with police Saturday as they tried to storm a closed arena in Sweden where the home country and Israel were playing a Davis Cup tennis match.
The activists hurled rocks and firecrackers at police vans as they tried to break through the barricades set up to keep protesters from the arena. Hundreds of riot police pushed them back using truncheons.
Ah , racism at it's finest. We don't like these people because they're of some particular race or nationality, we think they should die , etc etc. Gotta love the ignorant masses.
Swedish Left Party Leader Lars Ohly told the crowd that the European Union and the rest of the world should "boycott the racist regime in Israel."
The irony of it all. The only one acting in a racist manner here is the protesters, not the Jews. Tempers are running high , and the truth has again deserted the cause. It's almost a standard.
And what is all the fuss about ?
Someone tried to wipe out Israel and that nation actually dared to defend itself. I wonder what these people would say if we started lobbing rockets at random into Palistine ?
If these people want to understand racism, they need to look in the mirror.

Bus beheading trial ends with both sides seeking same verdict
Article
A two-day Winnipeg trial in a case of killing and beheading on a Greyhound bus ended Wednesday with both sides seeking the same verdict — not criminally responsible by reason of mental disorder.

The judge said he will deliver his verdict at 10 a.m. CT on Thursday.
Psychiatrists for the Crown and the defence agreed during the short trial that Vince Li, 40, was suffering from schizophrenia and did not know what he was doing when he killed 22-year-old Timothy McLean of Winnipeg on a bus in Manitoba last July.
The psychiatrists said Li believed he was acting on orders from God when he attacked McLean, mutilating the young man before decapitating him and eating part of the body.
.
.
.
Both psychiatrists said that Li, although he is very ill, could one day be rehabilitated and returned to society.
First I'd like to comment on the cop who first arrived at the scene of the attack , and upon noticing the victem was already dead and Vince Li was still stabbing him, herded all thirty passengers in front of the bus so they could see in the front window and witness the events still transpiring there in.
It is interesting that at the time the newsies widely condemed him for exposing those people to such trama. Yet at the same time this trial suddenly became an open and shut case with both prosecuter and defence wrapping it all up in lightning fast time.
Bet that cop is getting a lot of congradulations from his police buddies now. *grins*
How fickle fate is , one day your a villian , the next a hero.
Second. I think Vince Li should be locked up and we should throw away the key. Why ? Is it because I don't believe he's guilty ? Is it because I think he was faking mental illness ?
Nope. It's because I'm afraid. I'm terrified this psychopath (literally ! No exageration in this case !) might some day be allowed to walk the streets a free man. And I might be his next victem.
The public has a right to be safe. We have a right to have the mad dogs shot , the wolves who've tasted blood destroyed , whatever you want to call it. Because the truth of the matter is , civilization is a thin layer of habit we learn over a life time. Underneath it all , we are all wild animals, and killing our fellow man is not an act of insanity , it's actually normal operating proceedure for our species of being. Whether he's insane or not is irrelvant. The wolf has tasted blood , and wants more. And must be put down.

Phone Spam
Article = None , personal experience
I didn't sign up for the Bell do not call list.
I didn't give my number away to anyone.
Gotten a couple of calls from a 919 area code (North Carolina), a 702 (Las Vegas) and a 416-000 xxxx (000 is an invalid exchange)
There is only one possibility.
Bell Canada is now selling my phone number to the spammers.
So , if you're on the Do Not Call list , they sell it. And if you're *NOT* on the Do Not Call list , they don't want you to feel left out , they sell it anyways.
When my contract runs out, I am history.

Candian Police Groups toe the Taser Line : Insist they be allowed to Kill More Members of The Canadian Public
Canadian police groups defend Taser use
The Canadian Police Association says all officers should be allowed to carry Tasers and receive regular training to ensure they are using them correctly and in appropriate situations.
BUY MORE OF OUR TASERS ! YOU'RE NOT BUYING ENOUGH ! MORE MORE MORE MORE !!!
The groups also recommended that provincial governments set a uniform standard for training, testing and reporting incidents when Tasers are used.
And when someone dies , we'll blame the cops , not Taser corperation !
Momy and Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Vice-president Tom Kaye maintained that there is no evidence that a Taser has directly caused the death of a suspect.
They said that 150 studies have failed to find a link between Tasers and deaths, but did not make reference to any specific research.
Yeah , this is the same line the Tobacco Companies have been spouting for more than a CENTURY now . No one buys it. Taser Corp is a greedy american corperation that doesn't give a rats behind how many people die from its 'stun' gun as long as they make a profit.
Despite police claims that Tasers are safe, a team of Chicago researchers who Tasered pigs in 2006 found that each animal either died or suffered heart problems after being hit in the chest with two 40-second jolts.
And independant researchers who have nothing to do with Taser Corp or the police are giving the skinny on it. EACH ANIMAL .. that would mean 100% of them , had heart problems after being zapped by tasers. Some of them even died.
Both Momy and Kaye said that the general public has been misinformed about the potential dangers of Tasers, and cited examples when people have been subdued when they were threatening to commit suicide.
PAY NO ATTENTION TO THAT PILE OF CORPSES OVER THERE ! TASERS ARE SAFE SAFE SAFE !! SO GET YOURS WHILE THEY'RE HOT ! BUY BUY BUY !!!!

Pensioner Hostages
GM, Chrysler ask for billions in Canadian aid
General Motors has outlined a restructuring plan that would cut its Canadian workforce to 7,000 and seek as much as $7 billion from the federal and Ontario governments, while Chrysler is requesting around $2.8 billion in aid.
.
.
.
"Pensions are important for General Motors Canada, because we've been here for 100 years and we have more than three retirees for every active worker. That ratio is actually increasing and will actually move up to five to one, " said David Paterson, GM Canada's vice-president of corporate and environmental affairs.
so long and thanks for working for us your entire life. Enjoy your retirment ..oh yeah , that pension we promised you ? We changed our minds. You can starve now. Goodbye *boot*
Under the plan, GM's Canadian workforce — which numbered 20,000 in 2005 and currently stands at 12,500 — would be pared down to 7,000 by 2010.
Yeah , we're gonna fire 5,500 people , AND we want seven billion from you or we'll fire the remaining 7 000 !
Umm... 7 billion divide by 7 thousand = 1 million ... wow .. we could pay those 7000 workers 50,000 a year for 20 years and just have them sit at home and do nothing for that price. And thats assuming the million dollars (each) doesn't earn any interest. but of course even a modest savings rate will show enough for these guys to live on for the rest of their lives.
Except that it isn't going to be the rest of their lives is it ? The car companies will be back next year demanding more.
A million dollars a year for one worker ...
There is only one question that remains unanswered.
How much are these car companies giving the Liberal Party of Ontario for forking over that much dough ? And then threatening an election to crash parliment if the federal government doesn't kick in a few billion more ?
This is Liberal Corruption at it's finest. The Ontario Liberal Party must be laughing their guts out as to how the Liberals are still in power , still getting their kick backs from big business, even though , technically , they lost the election at the federal level.
The Liberal Brothel is still doing business , people. Have your money ready and they'll service you real good in your proper turn.

Ont. teen bullied beyond belief
Article
TORONTO - Since classes began in the fall, 16-year-old Lindsay Hyde has complained to her Mississauga high school about being bullied by a pack of mean girls.
.
.
.
Unchecked, the bullies became more brazen: They started shoving her in the hallways and taunting her with threats: that they would hold her head under water in the bathroom or burn off her pretty blonde hair or "kick the living s--t" out of her.
.
.
.
"They threw me face first against the glass," Lindsay recalls in a small voice. "I kept calling out to the bus driver -- 'Help me, sir, help me please' -- but he didn't even stop. Nobody helped me. I go to school with all these kids on the bus and nobody helped me whatsoever."
As she fought her way to the door, crying and trembling, one of the girls ended the assault by punching Lindsay in the face.
"I got off the bus and I couldn't even walk I was crying so much," she recalls.
.
.
.
Now, too late, the authorities in her life are finally stepping in. The police were called and the girl who punched Lindsay has been expelled from school and banned from the premises. The others involved were suspended for a short time but are now back in class.
.
.
.
Carol Speers, the superintendent of education..."It's unfortunate that Lindsay perceives the school wasn't doing anything for her. They've been supporting her as best as they can."
.
.
.
Her hell continues. Lindsay says she's being tormented even more now for getting the bullies in trouble, and just this past Tuesday, a group of them had her cornered and backed up against a staircase railing. "I thought I was going to die," she says in a chilling monotone. "I was scared for my life."
This article is quite interesting, and the superintendent is obviously a liar. How do I know this ?
Because I went to school too, and I got bullied too. And they did nothing , absolutely nothing ,about it. And I wasn't alone, there were lots of us smaller or meeker kids that always got picked on. I see that 25 years later nothing has changed. If in 25 years I still see the same thing as I saw when i went ... then that superintendent needs to be fired just for being a damned liar if nothing else.
Bullying , Drug Dealing, weapons , it was all there when I was a kid. And as recently as three years ago my neice came home with a joint and got caught smoking it by her mother (who hit the roof) so I know that hasn't changed either.
Our public education system has failed. The children are not safe there. Not from each other , and not from predatory drug dealers. We need to shut those schools down and start moving on with home education via computers and chat programs. Time to stop pouring money down the hole and torturing our children.
I think the most damning statement in the whole article was the one where the victem was punished by her peers for doing well in class. How can you educate anyone when they get the sh__ beaten out of them for actually bothering to learn anything ? That's what sticks in my mind from my days in public school , and it's obvious it has not changed.

Officially ... Enter the Garbage Men
Article
I have always found it amusing how some garbage men could better predict the economy than our well trained economists. Apparently I'm not alone in this.
Why the experts missed the crash
By the time he finished in 2003, Tetlock had signed up nearly 300 academics, economists, policymakers and journalists and mapped more than 82,000 forecasts against real-world outcomes, analyzing not just what the experts said but how they thought: how quickly they embraced contrary evidence, for example, or reacted when they were wrong. And wrong they usually were, barely beating out a random forecast generator.
.
.
.
Americans were shocked at how wrong the experts were. You weren't. Why not?
My research certainly prepared me for widespread forecasting failures. We found that our experts' predictions barely beat random guesses - the statistical equivalent of a dart-throwing chimp - and proved no better than predictions of reasonably well-read nonexperts. Ironically, the more famous the expert, the less accurate his or her predictions tended to be.
Ha ha ha. I'm not the only one more likely to trust the garbage man than the politico's and the economists.
Could we live without experts?
No way. We need to believe we live in a predictable, controllable world, so we turn to authoritative-sounding people who promise to satisfy that need. That's why part of the responsibility for experts' poor record falls on us. We seek out experts who promise impossible levels of accuracy, then we do a poor job keeping score
Yeah yeah , blame the rape victem. I've heard this one before too. They lied to us, they put themselves up on a pedistal , and got themselves a lot of money for telling those lies. And when they couldn't produce ? It's not my fault for lying to you ! It's your fault for listening to me !
This is called blaming the victem for getting raped. Doesn't work in a court of law. (except in Islamic nations) Why should it work in the real world ?
I think I'll keep my trust in the garbage men , not the economists, thanks a bunch.

The caption reads "They'll Have To Find Someone Else To Write The Next Stimulus Bill" , and the cartoon was run the day after Obama signed a very large stimulus bill for the economy in the USA.
And the Post defends the cartoon saying ...
The Post said the cartoon was meant to mock what it called an "ineptly written" stimulus bill.
"But it has been taken as something else -- as a depiction of President Obama, as a thinly veiled expression of racism," reads the statement. "This most certainly was not its intent; to those who were offended by the image, we apologize."
http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/02/19/chimp.cartoon.apology/index.html
Hmmm... nope ..not going to cut it. Still looks like you're calling Obama a monkey, which is a fairly racist thing to do.
Sorry. Apology rejected. I hope you get sued out of business.

Why the Battle of the Plains of Abraham isn't over yet
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20090221.wlivequebec0223/BNStory/specialComment/home
"There will be no 250th anniversary re-enactment of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham, after all," The Globe's Konrad Yakabuski wrote Saturday in his Globe essay Montcalm and Wolfe fail to meet again
"The National Battlefields Commission, a federal agency embroiled in a war of its own, has bowed to Quebec nationalists and its taskmasters in Ottawa, and cancelled the event it had hyped as 2009's 'premier summer event in Quebec City.'
.
.
.
"The 'sides' here are not Quebec and the rest of Canada. They are the feuding clans within the Québécois nation itself.
"On one side, the federalist warriors characterize 1759 as the starting point of French Canadian liberation, when the colonists of New France threw off an exploitative and uninterested ruler that was at least a century behind the British on the road to democracy.
"The sovereigntist combatants, on the other hand, see the Conquest as the tragic moment when they were forced into chronic inwardness and a still incomplete struggle for cultural survival and self-rule.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Plains_of_Abraham
The culmination of a three-month siege by the British, the battle lasted less than an hour. British troops commanded by General James Wolfe successfully resisted the column advance of French troops and Canadian militia under Louis-Joseph, Marquis de Montcalm. Both generals were mortally wounded during the battle; Wolfe died on the field and Montcalm passed away the next morning. In the wake of the battle, France's remaining military force in Canada and the rest of North America came under increasing pressure from British forces. Within four years, nearly all of France's possessions in eastern North America would be ceded to Great Britain.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/France
The monarchy ruled France until the French Revolution, in 1789. Louis XVI and his wife, Marie Antoinette, were executed (in 1793), along with thousands of other French citizens.
Time for a good old fashion contraversy Here.
Looks like the Plains of Abraham is where France lost the colonies that eventually became Canada / Quebec. But this was in 1759 , France didn't have it's revolution and over throw its hated monarchy until 1793, so it could be argued that the people of quebec got a better deal by being part of their own nation rather than being oppressed from afar.
On the other hand the pro-french seperatists are pretty hot under the collar about any kind of French defeat, deeming it a personal insult against all quebecers.
My Opinion
Too many May Haves and Might Have Beens. If France had won , if there had been a tie, there might have been this, there might have been that ... In logic and debating this kind of thing is considered a fallacy , no one knows what would have happened next if some different event in the past had come to pass, thats pure speculation it proves nothing.
It also seems to be buried under layers of propaganda from the Seperatists , who love France dearly even though France consistantly snubs them and tells them to take a hike. One has to wonder whether these Seperatists really want a nation of their own or if they want to go back to being a french colony. The fact that at the time the french monarchy was a rather cruel entity (so were the brits as a matter of fact) seems to escape them.
It all seems pretty muddled to me, with the Seperatists trying to twist it to mean whatever they want.

Bill proposes ISPs, Wi-Fi keep logs for police
Article
Republican politicians on Thursday called for a sweeping new federal law that would require all Internet providers and operators of millions of Wi-Fi access points, even hotels, local coffee shops, and home users, to keep records about users for two years to aid police investigations.
Didn't george bush , good old Dubblah , have the CIA photograph everyone who ever protested in front of the White House ? A legally defended right in America. And then put them all on the do not fly list so they couldn't get on a plane anymore ? And the list is set up so that there's no way to ever ever get your name off of it ?
So these people got shafted for exercising their perfectly legal rights ?
And now you're going to turn every internet provider in the country into employee's of the CIA so you can do it again ?
This isn't coming to Canada , is it ? I hope not.

Ottawa buses won't fuel religious debate
Article
An ad calling into question the existence of God won't board Ottawa buses for the time being.
Ignoring the advice of its chairman, the city's transit committee has voted not to overturn a staff decision to ban an ad campaign that had raised ripples in the city since it first popped up in England last month.
The ad, sponsored by the Freethought Association of Canada, says, "There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life."
My Opinion ...
OCTranspo is a work place. The drivers are at work, so are the fare inspectors and anyone else. They have a right to a safe , harrasment free work environment. And that includes the absence of posters espousing some kind of religion (or even non religion).
Much as I may believe in the cause , it has no place at work. Any work.
OC Transpo chief Alain Mercier said the ad was too hot to handle. "We felt that it would attract additional controversy on the transit system," he said.
.
.
.
The vote ended in a 3-3 tie, so the motion did not pass, but the ad could still end up on buses. Cullen said he will introduce his motion to the full city council on Feb. 25.

Obama 'will listen to us' on Afghanistan: Ignatieff
Article
Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff says he will press U.S. President Barack Obama during their meeting on Thursday in Ottawa for a clear, consistent strategy for Afghanistan, while also urging the U.S. leader to take more action against protectionist trade measures and ensure a free-flowing border.
We want Obama to figure out a plan of some kind or another in Afghanistan. And stop protectionism. And by the way I'm not actually the leader of a country I'm just some loud mouth who hates our current leader you can totally ignore me.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday in Brossard, Que., Ignatieff reiterated that the Liberals would not accept an extension of Canada's military mission in Afghanistan, which is scheduled to end in February 2011.
Ignatieff, who is scheduled to meet briefly with Obama at Ottawa International Airport on Thursday afternoon before the U.S. leader departs for Washington, said he has "a lot to say" about Canada's experience in Afghanistan and the direction of the NATO-led mission beyond the 2011 end date.
I'm gonna try and get our troops pulled out , but I may not have the autority to do so since I aint the prime minister. But none the less , I think you should listen to my idea's anyways even though you're building up troops in there and I'm doing everything I can to take them away and generally sabatage your efforts.
"We are looking for a strategy that will provide for some coherence and consistency in the NATO mission," he said.
We have no idea what we're doing, we're still trying to figure it out.
Ignatieff said Canada must pursue its engagement in Afghanistan after 2011 by focusing on development, as well as political and diplomatic efforts.
We think we should send unarmed civilians into Afghanistan so they can get kidnapped and used as hostages, as usually happens to refugee camp workers in islamic nations.
Is it just me, or is Iggy just plain eight ball wonko ?

How to Lose Votes and Sink Liberals
Khadr, cross-border issues to top Ignatieff's chat with Obama
QUEBEC — Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff will raise the fate of Omar Khadr — the only Canadian imprisoned in the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay — when he meets Thursday with U.S. President Barack Obama.
Step One : Insist a known terrorist, who volinteered to travel to the other side of the world so he could learn how to kill Canadians , be brought back to Canada, and found innocent of all charges.
The Liberal leader said he also expects to tackle other cross-border irritants with Obama during the U.S. leader's short visit to Ottawa, including free trade and Afghanistan.
Step two : Make an idiot of yourself by talking about Free Trade with the United states as if you actually have any power at all to do something about it, when even prime ministers of canada simply get done dirty at every turn on this issue by the americans.
He stressed that he will make it clear to Obama that the Canadian troops will pull out of Afghanistan in 2011, but said he will offer his help to work for a global strategy.
Step Three : Offer advice on how america should fight it's wars while pulling your troops out and refusing to send in any more.
"We are searching for a good strategy in Afghanistan. To be frank, we are currently lost in Afghanistan. I support the mission, but I think we are lost right now. We need to find a new strategy and I think Canada can offer a legitimate contribution," he said.
Step Four : Stand around and tell our soldiers "Duh ... we don't know what we're doing. I think we can help out but I sure have no idea how" in your best country bumpkin voice.
I love this guy ! "Right Now we are searching for a good strategy in Afghanistan.." "...Canadian troops will pull out of Afghanistan in 2011..." yeah , your good strategy is to put your tail between your legs and run for the hills, that's your strategy.
King Iggy. The New Dion. "WE gotta sink my liberals we gotta shut us down !"

Pakistani goverment OKs strict Islamic law in some areas
Article = Irrelevant
There used to be a time when Hamas could say anything it liked. Where they could make up any story. And the Palistine Liberation Organization before it. And Iran , and Iraq.
Now a days, Anything to do with Islam gets echoed around the world.
And they don't look so pretty in the Lime Light. The world stage is not a good place for terrorist nations and organizations to one day claim they represent "The hopes and aspirations of all Palestinians" and the next day go out and start shooting any Palestinian who disagrees with them.
The world stage is not the place for a nation like Iran to one day claim they want a nuclear reactor for peaceful purposes and then the next day start threatening to incinerate their neighbors , and America too. And then the third day tell everyone they're such a peace loving nation. And then the fourth day get caught smuggling arms into Palistine.
They did so well when no one was looking. Now it seems their name is Mud, everywhere you go.
The world stage is just not a good place for some people. They really need to stay off of it.

Wow , 96 years old
France 'responsible' for Holocaust deaths
Papon was convicted in 1998 by a French court for complicity in crimes against humanity for his role in the deportation of 1,590 Jews from the city of Bordeaux.
Most of the deportees later perished at the concentration camp at Auschwitz in modern day Poland. Papon died in February 2007, aged 96, after serving part of his term and then being freed on health grounds.
Wow. He lived to be 96. Cool ! I hope I live that long.
And for his terrible , terrible crimes ... you're chasing around a (then) 87 year old man and arresting him ? I'm sorry , but all the victems are in their graves and he himself has one foot in his grave. I think maybe it's far far too late to be chasing people for this matter. They've had a full and rich life and all you're doing is providing free health care to them while they're in jail so they can live another ten years and sadly confess their crimes.
Bet if you had left him alone he would have died long ago.
Bet he cost the french government a fortune in health care.
I'll even bet he knew it , and turned himself in because he knew he'd get free healthcare in jail and that would give him a few more years.
They're now working the system one last time. Getting just a little more out of it before they check out. Give it up and just dump them.
Microsoft Tactics
Effective Evangelism
(microsoft internal document brought out in court cases, starts page 3)
Evangelism Is War
Our mission is to establish Microsoft's platforms as the de facto standards throughout the computer industry. Our enemies are the venders of platforms tht compete with ours: Netscape, Sun , IBM , Oracle, Lotus, etc. The field of battle is the software industry. Success is measured in shipping applications. Every line of code that is written to our standards is a small victory; every line of code that is written to any other standard, is a small defeat. Total victory, for DRG, is the universal adoptation of our standards by developers, as this is an important step towards total victory for Microsoft itself. Critical Mass : " A sufficient mass of fissionable material to sustain a chain reaction"

This is facinating reading. They're openly planning on conquering the software world and discussing tactics. Including "Mind Control" (I'm assuming they mean ruthless but legal advertising)
They help the little companies for a little while , if it's to their advantage , and then they turn around and betray those companies. (Witness them being big on supporting norton and macafee by letting them install them on windows desktops on install , and then now they're starting up their own little anti-virus thing and locking those guys out)
Their standard tactic seems to be to join your side, fight your battle for you , and then betray you and sink you, and take over the place, take over the product you were producing.
Yeah , microsoft joining you is a bad thing.
To all those yokels trumpetting how Microsoft is suddenly helping out Red Hat Linux ..yeah ..stop trumpeting. They do that all the time. And then later betray you. Quit that.

Irreconcilable Differences
Canadian manufacturing sales plummet as economy cools
In the latest sign of a drastically cooling economy, Statistics Canada said Monday that sales of manufactured goods tumbled eight per cent in December of 2008 — the steepest monthly decline since the measurement began in 1992.
Let me see if I understand the situation.
A bunch of greedy americans became bankers. And they made loans that they knew would fail , but not for two years. (Sub Prime Morgages, low interest rate for 2 years, then a high interest rate). They made a lot of sales, they made a lot of commissions, commissions based on the notion that very very few of these sales would fail.
Because idiot could afford a house , the prices went through the roof, to the point that only an idiot would actually buy a house, because only an idiot is going to sign away his entire income for the next twenty or more years in exchange for a two bedroom flat on a busy street with loud traffic.
Then the bankers took their many millions in commissions, and they retired to play golf for the rest of their lives.
Then the two years ran out on these morgages, and the vast majority of them could not be paid. And so the idiots simply declared bankruptcy. They refused to pay. They could not pay , to be honest no one could pay such insane rates.
And so their houses were taken from them by the banks. Who tried to sell them. At the current rates. And they wont' sell. So they have to mark them down.
But banks are only allowed to lend out so much money. They have to have 5% in cash or assets on hand at all times. When they marked down the houses, suddenly they were over their limits. So they dared not mark the prices down too much, even though they wont sell because it would promptly choke the bank. They wouldn't be able to operate anymore.
And so a whole bunch of houses sit at insane prices , and no one wants to buy them, and no one dares to lower the prices.
And a whole bunch of people are living in cars, beside these empty houses.
And a whole bunch of banks technically have their minimum 5% assets , but not really, and everyone knows it, and so they have no confidence in these banks , and so the banks are going belly up.
And this creates a world wide mess because 300 million really rich people are suddenly living in cars instead of houses, and when you live in a car you're not going to buy a computer. Or a stereo. Or anything else like that. And though you have money because you're still working , you're not putting that money in the bank that just did you dirty. And you're certainly not putting money in a bank that you have no confidence in , in fact you're moving money out of that bank before it goes belly up ! Thus ... causing it to go belly up. And so they have been effectively removed from the market place , and the whole system crashes.
Is that about right ?
Ok. You know , the same thing happened with the power plants a few years back. One went down , and for months the Americans blamed Canada for it all (and then in a very quiet whisper admitted it had been an american company , but the whisper was so quiet that to this day most americans think it was Canada's fault).
And so what happened ? The Canadian Government decided to seperate their power grid from the american grid. Because hey , you took down most of ontario and a good chunk of quebec and it was some stupid american's fault and we can't have that. You dont take down the heartland of our country because some foreigner is too cheap to put safeties on his power reactor.
I think the same solution needs to be put him place here. There's no controls on the American Financial system, they've done this before , several times. Remember the great depression when they were selling all those stocks that were nothing but pieces of paper ?
We need to band together with a bunch of other nations and we need to seperate our economy from the American one. The whole world suffers an earthquake every time an american banker has a hiccup , and thats just not acceptable.
We need to get off this merry go round , and maybe get onto one that we control , not someone else.

CRTC to review hands-off approach to unregulated Internet, cellphone content
Article
MONTREAL — Canadians are watching more and more videos and TV shows that aren't required to have home-grown content via their computers and cellphones, but after a decade of explosive Internet growth the CRTC will review its hands-off approach to the medium.
The federal broadcast regulator will begin hearings on Tuesday in Gatineau, Que., to review its policy of allowing broadcasting content to be unregulated on the Internet and cellphones.
The CRTC is a joke , unable to enforce canadian content rules even on TV, let alone tackle new territories. The only possible reason for this excursion into censorship is to give a few pro business groups (like the liberals and their cohorts) total control over all information like they used to have over TV before people stopped watching it and started surfing the net.
The only thing the CRTC is capable of doing is screwing over the common man. Regulating any big business is beyond their control , they are in fact a pawn of big business , a false flag operation if you will.
Witness the cries of outrage over Bell putting charges on all text messages, even incoming spam. What did CRTC do about this ? Nothing.
Witness the fact that aside from a few local broadcasters babbling on about sports, 100% of all content on TV is made in america , because it's cheaper than actually producing our own stuff.
Witness the fact that , aside from the announcer reading the news , 99% of the content on any radio station is made in america. A small handful of canadian songs, a vast vast VAST majority of american songs.
There is no canadian content. And the CRTC is a lap dog of big busness to help them squeeze a few more bucks out of the common man. If you think they're going to actually protect the citizens of canada , you are sadly mistaken. Their mission statement is quite the opposite.

CEO OCTranspo dazzels us with Incompetance
OC Transpo faces deficit after strike, could scale back on buses
The head of OC Transpo says Ottawa's transit company lost more than just days on the road during its 51-day transit strike. It also lost important earnings that will leave the company in a deficit.
Alain Mercier, the head of OC Transpo, says that because of lost fares and the cost of winning back riders, the company is in the hole by $13.4 million.
..
..
In December, Mercier had said that the transit strike would save the city $3 million a week.
So this is your explanation ? You forgot that when you stop offering a service, people stop GIVING YOU MONEY for that service , therefore you're estimates are a little off ?
Did you think money fell out of the sky or something ? People just threw it at you for the fun of it ?
Alain Mercier , head of the OC Transpo , needs to be fired. It is obvious he doesn't have the neccessary skills to run a hot dog stand on bank street , let alone a major corporation that is vital to the functioning of the whole city. The whole notion of money , providing services, managing people, seems to be alien to him. He seems to think he does as he likes and the money keeps flowing in no matter who he ticks off , it all doesn't matter, he's the CEO of OCTranspo he can do anything he likes .
We don't have time for this three year old to figure out we expect results from him , that we expect the buses to keep on running , it's not his private fiefdom. Boot him out and get someone who can at least run a hot dog stand. They're obviously better qualified than this jerk who thinks money falls from the sky and your own actions have no influence at all on that flow.

Idiot Economics
Amputee, doctor of poor faces losing his home
But his place has sat on the market for three months without an offer. Located in a tony neighborhood in Manhattan's Upper East Side, apartments used to sell in a matter of weeks. Caplan has dropped $50,000 from the original asking of $625,000 and may have to drop the price again.
So ... most of the population makes 30 thousand a year and you wanna sell a house for 6 HUNDRED thousand ? Thats like their ENTIRE income for 20 years ? And you're all teary eyed because it won't sell ?
In the case of Luis Caplan, Jaffee says, "What it means to him, if they did carry out this program, then the government would be stimulating the demand -- the buyers -- for his apartment to sell it at a fuller price and much sooner."
And some yammer head professer of real estate and finance says yeah yeah ! Booste the price ! Make them buy pay their entire life times income for a house ! yeah yeah ! Thats a good thing !
I can't believe an economist is saying that.
The drinking at the public trough in america continues , I see. Reason has not yet broken through. They're still in the give me give me give me mode.

The New Middle East
I had reason to read an article on the Israeli election. Poor Israeli's. And there was a google map of Israel there at the side, because, well , it was a google article.
And so I clicked on it.
And what did I see ? I saw four nations side by side, like ducks in a row.

I play a lot of online games , risk like games where you invade other nations ? And looking at this map , I see Iran Gets it from three sides, jordon from two syria from two. Any of the countries in purple has very VERY serious security problems suddenly.
The three biggest , loudest , most american hating nations in the middle east, Iraq Iran and Jordon, well...knock off one unknown (afghanistan) and one biggie (Iraq) and suddenly you got your foot in the door to drop the US military in there most anywhere you like , don't you ?
Everyone is yelling at george bush for being a twit , what were you thinking invading Iraq ???
But looking at this map , I'm not so convinced he's a twit.

Google Latitude Goodbye Privacy
FAQ: How Google Latitude locates you
How does Latitude do that? Google is using technology that's similar to that of Skyhook Wireless in its Latitude service. Like Skyhook, it is a software-only location solution that allows any mobile device with Wi-Fi, GPS or a cellular radio to determine its position with an accuracy of 10 to 20 meters. What sets XPS apart is that it uses land-based Wi-Fi access points, GPS satellites and cellular towers to determine location information.
So how did you get these land based wi fi access points ? Oh , I forgot. You already said in a previous article. You drove a bunch of trucks down the street and made a map of the country. Did you ask their permission to use their access point to assist in the largest invasion of privacy known to man so that you could make a fast buck ? No , of course not. Don't be foolish. You just drove your trucks by and took whatever you wanted.
So lets recap.
You have to opt into the system, unless someone at Google either gets bribed or thinks they can make a fast buck selling your location , in which case you don't.
Someone takes your phone , or it's your bosses phone , he can opt in for you. He can also load it up with spy ware (as per the previous blog entry) and listen in on your every conversation read your every sms message. And now they can track your location too.
Which means if your one of those people who's on call all the time and you have to have your company phone with you all the time, I guess you can't go job hunting after your boss tells you off one day ,or he'll fire you if he finds you in the competitions building taking a job interview. *grins*
It is an interesting contrast.
Communistic China does this sort of thing for the State to maintain control of the people , make sure dissident opinions are not expressed or spread around, protect the party rah rah rah.
In the west, we commit this sort of violation of privacy and allow people to be threatenned and coerced by such information for reasons of making a profit. Say anything you want against the government , but show up at a baseball game on a day you called in sick and you're going to catch heck.

Cell Phone Spying
Article
Have you ever wondered what your husband or wife is saying on their cell phone? Now you can listen in completely undetected.
Using the same technology as law enforcement agencies worldwide.
You can now see who they are calling, read what they are texting and
hear what they are saying - and more...
Is your spouse cheating on you with someone else?
Is your Daughter still seeing that no good jerk?
Is your business partner making backroom deals?
Are your kids secretly buying drugs?
Now you can get the answers you deserve
Would you like to give up that company phone now that you know the boss is listening on everything ? So why did your wife or your best friend borrow your phone for two hours and then hand it back ? What are these weird charges on your phone bill whereby every time you get a call your phone seems to be dialing your wife or boss at exactly the same time ?
It staggers my mind that they're giving this technology to private individuals. Mostly because it means EVERYONE and the dog else already has it. Do you think Ma Bell is listening in on your every call ?
My policy of using my phone to say "meet me at the coffee shop in five minutes" seems pretty good here. I don't talk on the phone. Not with anyone.
This is insane.

Canada Gives Sri Lanka Dictatorship 3$ Million
Canada announces $3M in aid to Sri Lanka, calls for ceasefire
Canada on Wednesday pledged $3 million in humanitarian aid for civilians affected by the escalated Sri Lankan conflict and called for an immediate ceasefire
..
..
..
But Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake said Thursday the government had no intention of stopping its offensive against the rebels.
Speaking to the Sri Lankan parliament, Wickremanayake described the fighting as a "humanitarian operation" to rid the nation of terrorism and said he heard reports that some rebels were prepared to surrender.
The government has repeatedly rejected calls for a ceasefire, saying it was a ploy by the rebels to buy time to regroup.
Canada gives 3$ million dollars to Sri Lanka and politely askes them to stop shooting at people. Sri Lanka responds by thanking them for the money and giving them the Trudeau salute, in true Canadian fashion.
The aid consists of a $1 million grant to the International Committee of the Red Cross, and $500,000 grants to each of Oxfam Canada, Médecins Sans Frontières, World Vision, and CARE Canada.
The aid will be given to the usual unarmed civilians so as not to interfere with the Sri Lanken's troops as they go in there with guns and simply take whatever they like and shoot whoever gets in their way , thus providing the Canadian Government with it's usual shield of deniability, as is normal in these situations.

But in Canada, which has a Tamil population of about 35,000, rallies took place in Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal to protest violence against civilians. Protests were also held in a number of other countries — notably a 12,000-strong rally in Berlin and another in Geneva that drew 4,000 people.
NDP Leader Jack Layton attended the rally in Ottawa. "I know all of you are suffering to the depths of your souls as you think about what's happening to your families,” Layton told the protesters.
The purpose of this particular donation to the Sri Lanken government was to deceive the Canadian Tamil population that their people back home in Sri Lanken were being given all the help possible, while at the same time forwarding the more unstated , but still obvious to those who can read between the lines, cause of exterminating a known terrorist group, the Tamil Tigers.

Liberal Budget Plans : Crush the Little Guy
Article
The Liberals have already started to force cuts in public services, he added.
The government has made it illegal for hospitals to run deficits, forcing them to slash jobs and services to balance their books, Thomas said.
So if you get sick , too bad for you. It's too expensive to treat you.
The Liberals, who have often boasted about bringing labour peace to Ontario after the tumultuous years of former Conservative premier Mike Harris, may also be headed for job action in the province's schools.
The government settled a contentious 12-week strike at York University last week by legislating teachers back into the classroom - a move some say may have soured relations with unions in the midst of negotiating new contracts.
We brought peace to the Labour market. By giving them the Trudeau Salute and legislating them back to work !
And the Liberals helped in job creation by throwing some money at the big three auto makers to continue making cars no one can afford to buy. I believe they took the money , shut down all the factories, and bugged out the moment the check cleared.
Perhaps the back to work legislation was a neccesary evil, we Ottawans just came off a nasty 51 day bus strike and those two sides were totally at odds with each other. But still there is a definate pattern here of crush the little guy give money to corperations. A pattern that seems to belong souly to the Liberals. (in this case the Ontario Liberal Party)
You think people are going to stop getting sick just because there's a recession ? I don't think beating on the hospitals is a good idea , right off the top. If you're going to spend money to make work for people , you should be giving it to organizations that can't pocket it and run (like the big three). Hospitals arn't particularily mobile , I've noticed, and their clients don't move around much either. Maybe you should be hiring more workers there than at the car factory ?
But of course, the Hospitals arn't giving the Liberal Party kick backs like the auto companies are, so they're your political enemey, so crush them.
Until your kid gets sick.

Being Rich is Over rated
Article = none
After that article on Gambling and fixed lottery tickets , I began to think about being rich. And I think it's over rated.
What is rich , to begin with.
Rich is ... having more money than your next door neibour. A lot more. At least ten times more.
So why are you so worthy and he isn't ? Are you smarter stronger, able to work harder ?
I took a shot , I took some risks. I got lucky. Lot of other people also tried and didn't get so lucky.
So rich is ... luck?
Yep. Not everone can be rich. If you were, you wouldn't be rich , you'd be ...average.
Well...yah know...
I got a job.
I got an apartment.
I got a wife.
I live in a country with free health care , I swear they've blown a fortune keeping me alive so far (genetic disorder, Chrones Disease)
I feel good.
I'm pretty happy with the way things are going.
Maybe I don't need to be rich.
Maybe this whole rich business is over rated.

UN Gives Assistance to Hamas
Hamas police 'seize aid for Gaza'
They're not police. They're terrorists.
Hamas policemen have seized thousands of blankets and food parcels that were meant to be distributed to Palestinian civilians in Gaza, UN officials say.
A UN spokesman said policemen raided a UN warehouse on Tuesday after officials refused to hand over the aid to a Hamas-controlled ministry.
Hamas is hungry. And they have guns. And you don't. Thanks for bringing lunch for them.
However, he said his ministry was in dispute with the UN relief agency about how aid should be distributed.
He accused the UN of giving aid to local groups with ties to Hamas opponents.
We don't like you giving that food to just anyone. We want you to give it only to our supporters, we don't care if the other guys go hungry. Let them starve to death !
Anyone who brings food into any camp anywhere is guilty of providing material assistance to Terrorists (or the governing dictatorship , or whatever , they all look and act the same) it's just that simple. They have guns, they're gonna come and take it. You're saying one thing but doing another. You claim to be feeding the oppressed but you're only feeding the murders who do the oppressing. And this happens so often that you can no longer honestly say that you don't know it's gonna happen.
You are supporting the regime and insuring it will never fall. If they run out of food, they'll raid the camps and let those people starve. The oppressers will never starve, they will never get booted out of power, but they will insure their political enemies, who are typically the ones you came to feed, don't get a single grain of dirty rice.
Business as usual at the Congress of Dictators.

Insider lottery wins almost double earlier estimate: analysis
Article
The amount of Ontario lottery prize money claimed by insiders over 13 years is almost double what was originally thought, a professional analysis of prize data shows.
Deloitte, in an analysis of data provided by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, found $198 million, or 3.4 per cent of total winnings, was claimed by insiders in the past 13 years.
Not that I ever thought that the lottery was a good idea in the first place, but these people are STEALING !!! , and they're getting away with it.
...and limit potential fraud by people who sell lottery tickets.
Translation : They can't do it as easily, but they still do it.
"For the past two years, the organization has been better protecting players, and this in-depth analysis of 13 years of lottery data confirms we are on the right path and gives us great insight to drive even greater changes into our business," he said.
Translation : After 13 years of this stuff ... it's still going on. We're on the right path , we have greater insight , blah blah blah ... still happening. The THEFT of honest citizens continues.
There's money on the table. The game is fixed. Just like Las Vegas. Just like every casino in the world. It's very simple really.
Riches come from the new ways of doing things , the new technologies. The old ways everyone pounces on and crushes the life out of. There was a time when saving up and buying a house was a path to riches. Now it's a path to poverty as everyone EXCEPT the home owner benifits from it. There was a time when putting money in the bank was the way to go. Now inflation goes crazy and the dollar is badly devalued AND you're taxed on that money anyways on top of everything else ...
Somedays I just don't know. Some days I think it may be no longer possible for hard work to make anyone rich. Blind luck seems to be the only determining factor lately.

The Garbage Men
Article = none , personal experience
When I was young, they did a survey on the news. They asked people what they thought was going to happen to the economy in 10 years.
They asked some Leading Economists, who said it would do great !
They asked some politicians , who said it would do great !
They asked some Business Leaders , who said it would do great !
They asked a few garbage men , who said it would go right down the tubes.
Ten years later, the economy went right down the tubes.
This seems to be a repeating pattern. Whereby the "experts" give one opinion , and the regular ignorant unwashed masses give another , and it turns out the experts are usually wrong.
I have a theory about this. That theory is that those in power, the politicians , don't care about the future. They only care about the next four or so years and the rest of the future can go to the devil (this explains the atlantic accord, which makes all sorts of ridiculous promises THEY WON'T HAVE TO KEEP because they'll be out of power by the time it comes due , it will be someone elses problem ...) So they go shopping for experts who will say only what they want them to say. they're not looking for the truth , they're looking for propaganda to support their position. Lets be blunt here , they're looking for professional liars.
The garbage man has no such considerations , and is at least trying to tell the truth. And once in a while , he gets it right. Where as the professional liars are never right.
The most recent incident of this truth , of what I call The Garbage Men , is all those posters who said how horrible the Do Not Call List was (I was one of them , but I was hardly unique , there were thousands and thousands of us) and we were ignored. And now it's a disaster.
Long live The Garbage Men. At least we're trying. They're not.

Budget 'all-out assault' on N.L., Byrne says
The federal budget is an "all-out assault" on Newfoundland and Labrador and an attempt to punish Premier Danny Williams, which is why six MPs from the province voted against it, says Liberal MP Gerry Byrne.
Byrne, the MP for Humber-St. Barbe-Baie Verte, and five of his provincial colleagues voted against the Conservative budget Tuesday, charging that it robs the province of about $1.6 billion in federal funding.
((edit)) Doesn't say how much oil revenue , but it does say 1.4 BILLION dollar surplus in 2007 - 08 (N.L. oil revenues lead to ditching 'have-not' status )
And how much did you make in oil revenue ? It's never stated.
Speaking Wednesday morning on Canada AM, Byrne said Harper has amended the terms of the Atlantic Accord without warning. The Accord protects Newfoundland and Labrador from reductions in equalization payments despite revenue from offshore oil reserves.
Oh ? There's a name for this piracy ? The Atlantic Accord. It's actual official piracy ? Let me google that and see what clown made this agreement ...hmmm 2005 ... who was in power in 2005 ? Hmmm... article about the newfoundlanders hating harper because he opposed the accord ...Aha ! It was the Hundred Million Dollar Man , Paul Martin , a Liberal. (I call him that because 100 million in tax payers money went missing while he was finance minister, and then he got elected prime minister anyways ! )
Of course a Liberal would hand big business money by the truck load , that was a given , I just wanted to find the proper quote to prove it.
"Together we stand," Byrne said. "Mr. Harper is a divider. He is a divider, and the only way to take this man on, to counter punch what he is doing - not only to the entire country, not only to Newfoundland and Labrador, but to the very fabric of our federation - is we need to be united and stand together."
Together We stand ...with the rest of Canada, whom we are screwing over for billions ... and we don't want to stop because it feels so good ... join us ! Help us Screw yourselves over ...

Both Parties Move to Aid Struggling Homeowners
Article
Analysts caution that any sweeping effort to reduce mortgage foreclosures would pose daunting challenges. The biggest challenge would be providing financial help to the three million people who are in real trouble without starting a rush to cash in by the tens of millions who are not.
But Richard Berner, chief economist at Morgan Stanley, said that ignoring the problem would be even worse.
“Home prices, housing activity and both mortgage lenders and borrowers will suffer,” Mr. Berner wrote in a recent report. “The economic cost of such further declines would exceed the cost of mitigation.”
Umm... let me see if I understand this.
You gave away money, for free, to american citizens so that they could go buy themselves a house.
The banks responded by multiplying the prices of those houses BY FIVE and setting up sub prime morgages that are guarenteed to rip off the consumer with an interest rate that jumps to something insane after two years, which they KNOW the consumer cannot afford, and thus inevitably, there was a mass defaulting on morgages. All because you gave away free money.
And your solution to this problem is ...
... give away some more free money.
And let the banks make any contract they like , force or trick the consumer into any conditions they like , so as to do it all over again.
Its the sub prime crisis RELOADED !
The prices have to be permitted to drop back to normal. It's just that simple. Otherwise you're just handing the banks an endless series of blank checks.
You need to be insane to buy a cruddy two or three bedroom house on a busy street for three quarters of a million dollars, and by the way you only make 30 000 a year. I don't care how cheap a loan you give me , I wouldn't do it.
and if the land lord does it , and decides to charge me 3000$ / month rent , which is more than I make in a year , he's insane too, and I'm out of there !
It has risen high , now it must crash.
Put the money into unemployment insurance and relocation funding to let people move away from places with insane rates. That will solve yoru problem right quick. Uncapture this "captive market" that the land lords think they have , and things will fix them selves with amazing alclarity.

Iran launches 1st domestically made satellite: state media

Article
"Dear Iranian nation, your children have placed the first indigenous satellite into orbit," Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a televised message.
"With God's help and the desire for justice and peace, the official presence of the Islamic Republic was registered in space," he said
Nice. Mr "Nuke the Jews" has put a satillite in orbit, and he's got a nice covering there so no one can see what the sattilite even looks like.
Shoot it down.
Retarded OPP
Father sues OPP after girl, 14, Tasered
The girl, who is identified in court papers only as Jane Doe, was hit once in the leg "for three to five seconds" with a Taser inside the OPP detachment in Sioux Lookout, about 400 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.
..
..
..
The family's lawyer, Jeff Roberts, told Canwest News Service yesterday that the girl was taken to the hospital for burn marks after the incident on July 10, 2008. The lawsuit claims that the girl was "left traumatized" when her leg went numb for a month.
Numb for a month. Oh yeah , you zapped her good.
"Police describe her as a dangerous girl. It's not true," Mr. Roberts said. "She has a cognitive impairment and her emotional responses have been stunted. She's not a bad kid."
Retarded little girl. 14. And she's an indian kid , not like she's a real person or anything. (She's from Lac Seul First Nation) or so the police will claim. I smell racism.
OPP spokesman Insp. Dave Ross said yesterday the force was not contesting that the girl had been Tasered, but that the OPP's professional-standards bureau completed an investigation in December 2008 and cleared the officers of any wrongdoing.
WE ADMIT WE TASERED THAT SQUAW REAL GOOD !!! AND WE THINK THATS AN OK THING !!!
I'll tell you who the real RETARDS are here. And they aint from no first nations reservation.

Seek Canadian exemption to U.S. protectionism: Liberals
Article
The Liberals say it may be too late to scuttle the "buy American" provisions in the U.S. stimulus package and want Stephen Harper to lobby for a Canadian exclusion clause.
And while you're at it , can you lobby the Sun to start coming up in the west ? My window faces the wrong way and I never see the sun in the mornings so I need that changed too.
Yeah right.
We all watch too much American TV.
We all know too much american slang.
We all follow waaaay too much american politics.
And we all tend to forget one simple fact.
We're not americans. And the American government is not obligated to protect us. In fact , considering it's obligation to protect it's own citizens, you might even say that it is obligated to protect it's own people and to heck with everyone else in the world.
And we're part of everyone else. In case you forgot that simple fact.
There isn't going to be any canadian exclusion. Their actions in the software lumber dispute pretty much make the point crystal clear that if they want protectionist measures, we're victem number one, we don't get an exemption. We get targetted as the prime supplier of ...whatever. Wood , steel , manufactured goods , what not. Because we are the primary supplier. We don't have to ship it from the other side of the world we can just ship it down the road one or two hundred miles by truck. Easy , cheap.
I don't know what we should do , or where the numbers balances out or when we should retaliate with protectionist measures of our own.
But I do ,know , we aint getting any kind of exemption. This is a liberal game , a demand for the impossible so they have an escape clause to crash the government any time they like.
Just like the Bloc Quebecois do.

Maritime Pirates
MPs vote in favour of Liberal budget amendment
However, there is growing backlash within the Liberal caucus. Ignatieff was scrambling Monday to appease at least four Liberal MPs from Newfoundland and Labrador, who say the budget singles out their province and robs it of an estimated $1.6 billion in federal transfer payments.
Ah, the Maritime Pirates, another Liberal Disaster waiting to put egg on their face.
Newfoundland and Labrador found oil off shore ! Cool ! Now they're rich !
But don't try and take away our welfare money ! Don't try and treat us as a Have province instead of a Have Not province ! Keep that money from Ontario and Alberta flowing AND we wanna keep the oil money too ! And we're gonna kick up a real big fuss about it too ! GIVE ME GIVE ME GIVE ME GIVE ME !!!!!
It's the soul of the Liberal Party , if you ask me. They have truely found their home, and are surrounded by people that totally agree with that attitude.
Welcome to the Liberal Party. Now fork over your wallet. Private individuals wait for the trickle down as we TAX TAX TAX them. Everyone else we give money to by the truck load.

Rona Ambrose Responds (sort of)
I sent an email to Rona Ambrose, member of parliment , about the ottawa strike.
And she replied ! Or ..her assistant did.
Dear Mr. XXXXXXXXXX
Thank you for your letter.
I have passed your sentiments along to the Minister, who is also pleased that the buses will soon be back on the roads again. She felt that the “people of Ottawa had suffered enough.”
It was thoughtful of you to write.
Diane Scharf
Assistant to the Hon. Rona Ambrose, PC, MP
The letter cracks me up. Especially the part about "It was thoughtful of you to write." why ?
This is what I sent them.
Subject : Ottawa bus Strike
Text :
Binding arbitration.
Send them back to work.
Now please.
50 days is too much.

yeah , that was *REAL* thoughtful of me to send her a nice letter like that. *snicker snicker*
Well, she never saw it anyways. It was an assistant that wrote me back , and it was probably a form letter too.

No More Tomb Raiders
Legendary British warship 'found'
In 2007, Odyssey said it had salvaged 17 tonnes of gold and silver coins, worth $500m (£343m), from a shipwreck in the North Atlantic.
The Spanish government later sued the company, claiming the the sunken ship was a famous 19th-Century Spanish galleon.
The case is pending.
In the fairy tales..you find sunken treasure , you keep it !
In the real world..everyone and the dog sues you and you don't get to keep a single gold dubloon.
It just doesn't pay to be a tomb raider anymore . Those days are gone. Let the government search for this stuff, we don't get to keep anything anyways.

Israel Vs Iran
Hamas leader praises Iran's help in Gaza 'victory'
The Iranian leader stressed that that the war in Gaza has not yet ended, noting that "the Islamic Resistance must, with full alertness and in proper ways, prepare itself fully for the possibility of the beginning of another war," Fars reported.
Khamenei denounced some Arab countries for criticizing Hamas, and called for Israeli leaders to be tried for war crimes.
I'd read it mentioned several times Iran was backing Hamas , but I didn't want to bring it up because I had no proof. Well... the leader of Hamas showing up to meet the President of Iran , and that President saying "yeah..keep on fighting , keep on killing jews" ... guess thats good enough.
Hmm...was hoping for a quote about him giving more than moral support to Hamas, all I got was the usual quote of the USA accusing Iran of sending arms to Hamas , no details. Not sure if that counts or not.
Guess we all have to make up our own minds.

'Buy American'
Article
As passed by the House, section 1110 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 says, "None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available by this act may be used for a project for the construction, alteration, maintenance, or repair of a public building or public work unless all of the iron and steel used in the project is produced in the United States."
Very nice mr obama.
We need a buy Canadian Clause ourselves ! If we bail anyone out, they cannot buy their goods from anywhere but Canada ! You have to spend our tax payers dollars inside of Canada not give them to some forien nation , I totally agree.
Welcome to the new trade war.

Liberal-NDP coalition (supported by Bloc Quebecois)
Dec. 1, 2008 to Jan. 28th, 2009.
It was with mixed emotions that the death of the Liberal-NDP/Bloc coalition was announced this morning in Ottawa.
Sorry. I just had to reference this article. It gave me a few chuckles, and in this gloomy time , thats usually a good thing.
